Positive Reviews:

Good, Strong Hatch, but beware of T-H Hatch Latch

I had plastic hatch lids on the forward casting deck of my center console. These bulged upwards and were not flush with the deck, so made footing a bit unsteady when standing up there. I stepped back onto one, and even though it was supposed to be reinforced , the lid cracked, so I started looking for metal flush mount, and found these on Cabela's.
These hatches are heavy duty, strong, well made, workmanship is very good. The finger grips that come with the hatches are just that, they do not latch, rely upon gravity to keep the lid closed. Since I travel choppy bay water, I needed a positive latching system to keep lids down while underway. I purchased two small and one medium hatch. When purchasing, the Cabela's site recommended the T-H Hatch latch as companion part. Problem is that the installed finger grips have an oval hole, the T-H Hatch latch requires a 2 3/8 round mounting hole. No problem, I figured, I got a 2 3/8 hole drill, and drilled out the original openings. This worked for the small hatches, but on the medium hatch, the original hole was too close to the edge lip, and the nut on the T-H Hatch latch hit on the edge of the hatch frame, and door would not close. I used my router to push the opening back ~ 1/2 inch to get clearance. I used a piece of 3/8 SunBoard to make a washer to close up the gap left behind by having to push the latch hole away from edge of hatch frame. Once lid is covered by carpet, you would never know there was any problem.
I am very happy that I can now roam at will across my casting deck and stand on the hatch lids with no problem. (T-H Hatch latch is very well made as well. )
End result is very good, just expect to make a few mods during assembly.

supper tough and a few mods make them even better

I ordered 2 large and 1 medium hatch and they are great. The medium is in the floor and can handle all my weight no problem. I put the two large ones in either side of the under the gunnel for storage. I ordered slam locks for the hatches and with a few modifications they work great and lock now! I Had the entire 18' boat lined with a spray in type bed liner, as well as the hatches. WOW! They turned out awesome! I highly recommend these hatches. They are so much better than any plastic ones on the market, they are worth every cent.

Negative Reviews:

Not as advertised

I bought this product for my aluminum boat as an anchor locker hatch, so I have no plans to cover it with carpet. The hatch showed up with a gray powder coating on it and a gray handle, NOT what is pictured on this web site. Now I have to sand the entire thing down and find a black handle/latch. If I had known what I was getting, most likely would not have purchased this.
