Fish this pattern with a down and across swing like a traditional wet fly, or dead drift it like a regular nymph. It also works well during a caddis hatch when the trout are keying on the emerging pupae. Per 3. Sizes: 12, 14, 16.
I went fly fishing on the Pigeon River in northern Michigan last week, and caught a beauty of a rainbow trout on this bead head soft hackle hare's ear. Over the course of a couple days, my son-in-law and I caught several trout, but the one I caught on this fly was by far the biggest, a 14 or 15 incher. I give credit to the fly.
