Cabela's Lead Core Fishing Line -
Tightly braided, high-tenacity nylon multifilament yarn encapsulates a 99.9%-pure lead core. This pure-lead construction offers a smaller diameter than standard lead-core lines. The color changes every 10 yards for accurate measurements of fishing depths without having to use a linecounter. The line is also a great alternative to snapweights or divers. Approximate sink rate is 1.25 ft. with every 2 yards released, depending on speed.
Spool sizes: 100-yds., 200-yds.
Available: 54 lb., 18 lb., 27 lb., 36 lb. (200-yd. spool only), 45 lb. (200-yd. spool only).

Not about the line

This is not a review on any line, but how your using the line that you have. I am not telling you that your using it incorrectly, I do recognize the problems some of you are having with it.
My question is, are you using it properly? I ask this because I have recently started using lead core line. I just assumed you would use it like braided line. After having those problems of blistering line, lead core breaking through, my new line breaking apart like it was rotten, and knots breaking, I researched online to see if others were having these troubles and low and behold there was many.
I also learned you can not just tie knots in this line and you should be running mono leaders properly tied into it. After doing this my success has increased dramatically. I am landing more fish and having fewer problems with it after learning how to use it properly.
I am not saying anyone is using it improperly but if you are having trouble with it and there seems to be no solution to it. I recommend the internet. I was beginning to hate lead core as well until I learned how to use it. Now I would not be with out it in deep water trolling.

Not worth your money.

Purchased a 100 yd. spool of Cabela's 18# Lead Core Fishing Line to troll a local lake for striped bass and unfortunately it did not last my first day of use. Right away noticed the ink from the "colors" (esp orange) were bleeding and splattering on my hands and white t-shirt as I reeled in after the first troll. Then, after a couple of hours the line began to kink and it became very difficult to let line out. Later, felt something catching the guides while reeling in and noticed the "lead core" had split and both ends were protruding from the nylon braid toward the 5-color mark. A thin piece of thread was all that held the line together. Decided that was it and stopped trolling. I was using a new Cabela's Depthmaster trolling rod and a new Penn reel. Inspite of all the lead core line problems I did manage to catch a nice 6 lb. striper through it all, so not a total loss.

Poor Quality Leadcore

I experienced the same problems that the gentleman from Colorado spoke of in his July 2013 review. After one fishing trip, I noticed that the leadcore was protruding from the braid. The lead wasn't broken, just a loop about a 1/2" long, poking through the braid. It happened in several spots in the first five colors. After the second use, there were more loops in more colors, and the leadcore was no longer useable. The colors also bled onto the fiberglass gelcoat in the boat. After the second use, some colors were multiple shades and difficult to identify. My purchase was in June 2013, based on a recommedation from a long-time Cabela customer. It must have been a bad lot and will be returned to the Maine store next week.
