Cabela's LSi Spey and Switch Rods -
We’ve taken our all-around most versatile fly rod series, the LST, and made it even better. Improvements include greater durability and a smoother action, thanks to the integration of a proprietary multidirectional graphite matrix. Fish these Line Speed Improved (LSi) rods and you’ll enjoy greater core strength to absorb the fight right out of aggressive fish. The Spey and Switch rods extend the all-around performance of the LSi series for maximum long-range, big-water potential. Ideal for use as boat rods or anywhere you need more rod, the switch models can be cast using two hands like a traditional spey rod or with one hand. Rod handles are designed for switch- and spey-rod techniques. The modified design further enhances the versatility and value that made the originals popular. Built on a high-modulus blank platform, the rods live up to their Line Speed lineage with lightweight fast actions ready to precisely zip line to all targets, near and far. Alignment dots for easy assembly. AAA-grade cork handles. Lightweight aluminum reel seats. Each rod includes a rod tube and rod sock. 25-year limited warranty.

Value Pick

The 5 weight, 11" 6" model is very effective in covering big water for trout. Casts well with either one or two hands. The quality is well above average in terms of materials and construction. This is the kind of value I have come to appreciate when shopping with Cabela's.

Great Rod

I have the 11' 7wt switch rod. The rod casts well, is really nice for long drifts, light and good action. I was a skeptic before I got it, didn't know how a Cabela's rod would stand up. Casts well and I landed a 10-lb steelhead the first day out.

11'6" 8wt Cabelas Lsi review

I bought the Lsi 11'6" 8 wt switch. Great rod out of the box. Light in hand, crisp wiggle test ok cork. On a closer inspection of the upper handle cork I found a couple of sinking spots in the cork. That is where the cork separates from the blank for not beeing glued right. I had the same experience with 2 Cabelas TLr switch rods before. Rod cast great any line at about 450gr. Skagits, scandis, they all cast great. I liked the best an airflo rage head at 450gr with 10 feet of T8.
So, great rod, light, crisp fast action if you don't pverlone the rod. The big negative here is the cork separating from the blank. This happened right out of the box and it will only get worse on the river when wet. I fixed mine by splitting open two cork rings and re-epoxy them together. Also, the guides seem very light wire, almost cheap looking.
Overall, great light rod with plenty of power for any steelhead and light salmon work. Be aware that your cork may come loose from the blank. I own 4 cabelas rods and this happened to me on 3 of them.5
