Good and bad points

As a retired Cabelas employee, I buy almost everything from them. I had to replace my Chota felts because of law change so ordered size 14(my reg. size is 13) in the Ultralites with rubber soles so I could have the SS studs. They are HUGE, but I will keep them for winter wading with waders and an extra pair of socks to fill in the gap. For my hiking wader boots (we wet wade all summer in nylon pants, socks and boots) I ordered the new Packable Wading Boots in size 13. They are still very big, but are difficult to lace. Suggest bigger lacing loops and sturdier plastic tips on the laces. Laces however are plenty long to double tie. Adjusted the straps (not sure if they are for hanging, additional strength?, and ended with 10" extra material, so much so that the male/female Velcro would not match. If you double them over, you end with a 5' loop that becomes a "twig catcher".Need some printed instructions with these. As of now, I will cut off 8 of the 10 inches, and keep the boots. The idea of them, and their overall construction are good. I'll use them to wet wade on some spring creeks in Sept/Oct. and get a better idea of their fine points.

Great Wading Boot!

I recieved these boots with the packable waders. My first trip to the ocean, I attempted fly fishing while wet wading. The boots did great! They definitely helped keep my footing in the surging surf and were infinitely better than trying to use flip-flops. I am not sure how to evaluate these since they are my first wading boot, but they are easy enough to put on, drain well and felt comfortable on the hike in (about 1 mile each way). The only complaint I would have is that the straps seem fairly useless except to hold down the laces and buckling the boots together to make carrying easier. Overall, I am very happy and cannot wait to try the accompanying waders.

Great packable boots!

These boots are extremely light and both pack down to the size of a normal wading boot. I've used these a few times now and the soles seem very durable and grip wet rock well. I bought these for backcountry use where I need to hike or pack in. They are very comfortable. I wear a size 11.5-12 and ordered a 12. They fit snuggly with a pair of wool socks and 3mm neoprene stocking foot waders. The best part is that these boots dry in a few hours as opposed to my "nicer" wading boots that stay damp for days. I'll definitely buy another pair when these wear out.

Negative Reviews:

Do not recommend! Read this before you buy!

There are two major flaws with this item. ONE: The shoelace slots are made of canvas (not grommets!) and make lacing, tightening, and loosening a ridiculously difficult & time consuming pain in the butt! When wet and/or muddy, they are even more difficult to use. I loaned the boots to my 22-year old son, and laughed as I watched him struggle as I had to get them on, tightened, and tied. Like me, he wanted to throw them away. I also speculate that the lace holes will not hold up to years of wet/dry/mud exposure combined with the torque required to tighten them. TWO: The strap intended to add support over the top of your foot is ridiculously long, leaving extra strapping which flops around. And, if you wish to unbuckle the strap, you will step on it and break it in short order - like I did. In terms of usability & function these boots rate a solid ZERO. The only positives are they appear to be a solid boot and are sized appropriately. For most of us, wader boots need to be simple to put on/off, simple to lace, and tough. Cabela's is one of my favorite outfitters, and they used to carry common-sense, quality options. I am VERY disappointed with this purchase - it was a complete waste of money.
