Cabela's Mtx/Wlx Fly Combos -
The best of all Cabela’s brand fly-fishing combos pairs the MTx fly rods and WLx reels at a money-saving price. Combo includes Cabela’s Prestige Premier fly line and backing.
Cabela’s most technologically advanced fly rods are the industry’s first to incorporate revolutionary 3M™ Powerlux™ matrix resin for less than $400. For years, advancements in rod technology focused on improving the quality of graphite. The resin, think of it as the glue holding the graphite together, remained the same. Everything changed when 3M utilized nano-sized silica to create their breakthrough resin. Mixed with our MTx rods’ premier blend of high-modulus graphite, the resin’s microscopic particles enhance strength, durability and sensitivity, while minimizing weight. These powerful, fast-action fly rods are up to 60% stronger and 30% lighter compared to models without the technology. Premium components of the MTx series include ion-plated hard-chrome single-foot guides and a Recoil stripper guide; weight-reducing skeletonized aluminum reel seat with carbon-fiber insert; and 4A-grade cork grip. Ships in a protective rod sock and beautiful carbon rod tube. 25-year warranty.
The WLx series earns its elite position by exhibiting the same exacting machined tolerances, lightweight design and reliability Lamson has built a reputation on delivering. Clad in a two-toned, nonglare anodized finish, the 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum is fully CNC-machined and matched with stainless steel components to blend superior light weight with rugged strength. Solid machined spool further increases overall strength-to-weight ratio. Aggressive large-arbor ratios promote maximum line pickup speed and minimum line coil memory. The proven-reliable sealed drag consists of stacked, smooth-braking Rulon® discs with a two-stage compression drag spring that accommodates a wide range of drag pressures. Ball-bearing drag knob with detents ensures positive, smooth drag selection. Large knurled drag knob for ease of adjustment in wet conditions. Easy tool-less conversion from left- to right-hand retrieve. 25-year limited warranty.

Cabela's Mtx/Wlx Fly Combos Reviews:

High-end combo, mid-range cost. Great value.

I picked up the MTx/WLx combo in the 8'6" 4wt. with SE GPX WF Floating line for trout on medium to large streams and rivers and love it. The balance of the rod and reel is great and the accuracy on long casts is excellent along with the fly rolling over perfect.
The Reel (drag system) is excellent. It is sensitive and smooth (I use 7x, 8x and 9x tippet). Very little energy/effort is needed for a long productive day on the water. My first rod snapped (clean as a razor cut) the first day I used it between the 2nd and 3rd eye from the tip while fighting a fish using 8x tippet so I can only assume it was a defect from the manufacturer. Cabela's replaced it the same day and i've caught well over 100 trout since.. High-end combo, mid-range cost. Great value.

I upgraded to the MTx from the L-tech. Loved the L-tech, but broke it multiple times with large fish on. I have now fished with the MTx several times, caught many fish, and love it. You can tell it isn't as light as the L-Tech, but it's still not heavy - arm does not get tired. You can also feel that it has more strength and durability when nymphing or while landing large fish. I had the WLx with the L-Tech and now the MTx and I have loved the reel with both rods! Best reel I've ever owned!

Very nice outfit-great value

I purchased the 6wt. outfit. The WLX reel is great and lives up to Lamson's quality. The rod is also great-very high quality. I use this outfit to throw small bass poppers and wet flies for warm water species. I did however change the line from the Cabela's Premier Plus that came with the outfit to another brand of 6wt. Bass Taper line and found the rod preformed better for my application. I would recommend this outfit to anyone, novice to very experienced. Looks great and performs even better.

Best fly fishing out fit I ever owned or used.

Took a chance purchasing a fly outfit online,
but this combo rod reel & line is great. I am very
satisfied. Caught a brown & rainbow with it and
the equipments reaction was perfect. I would make
one recommendation which is to purchase a
second spool and add 6WF floating line just to
have slightly more weight for windy conditions,
which I intend to do.
