Great jigging rod!

Used this rod for lingcod out of Westport. We were fishing just off bottom in about 130 feet of water using, 30 pound test Striker Saltwater Mono, and 8 to 10 ounces of weight. This rod handled the weight perfectly. Very easy to feel the bottom and those hits while heading to the bottom. Stiff tip but surprisingly sensitive. Over a three day fishing spree that I took part in I caught a bunch of rockfish and some pretty fair lingcod. None over 20 pounds but I know that my Salt Striker rod is going to do just fine the next time out when I hook a 50 pounder or bigger.

Excellent so far

I bought this rod and a Penn reel as a treat to myself using my cabela's points. I only used it once so far on a striper/blue fish trip off the coast of NJ and the rod was a pleasure to use. I purchased the 6'-6", 1-3 oz, 15-30lb model and it handled a 39" striper beautifully....can't wait to get out there and use it some more.

Negative Reviews:

Broke the first trip out.

I have always had good luck with Cabela's products and was very disappointed in this rod. I was using twenty five pound braid and had the drag set at eight pounds (checked with a scale after the rod broke) and the rod broke about 2 inches below the tip. I was fighting a four and a half foot shark and landed it using the broken rod (maybe I should give it two stars). As usual, Cabela's was great about refunding my money when I sent the rod back.

Sad to say the ceramic eyes were apparently glued on rather poorly. Didn't last 2 seasons. Approach this rod with caution.
