Cabela's Salt Striker Cork Tape Handle Spinning Surf Rods Reviews:
salt striker 116-mucho grande
I am from Michigan and spend my winters fishing in the surf at Canaveral National Seashore. My target species is Florida pompano. Looking for a lighter rod I found the salt striker 116 and purchased it last summer. I got to try it last week and was very impressed. Its light enough for my wife to handle. Casting is effortless. You don't have to muscle it, the rod does the work. Its like a rocket launcher. I can cast a 3oz sputnik about 100yds with little effort. The lighter rods catch more fish-not sure why. Maybe they don't feel any resistance. We ran 5 rods and this one caught more fish than the other 4 combined. I'm no expert, just love to fish, but the proof is in the pudding.
Really a nice rod great action. would have given 5 stars but there is nothing "oversized" about the guides they are normal to small for a surf rod. I slapped my 704Z on it just to test it out and it is to big for the guides that are on this rod. Will have to find a new reel as tough as the 704 but smaller.
purchased the 8' 6" model two years ago and I have to say its the best surf rod that I own. great action, durable and you can cast a country mile with it. I have landed stripers up to 42" with this rod and I know it will keep landing fish for many years to come.
