Cabela's Salt Striker Inshore Spinning Combo Reviews:

good value for the price

This most recent order constitutes my my fourth and fifth Salt Sriker rod-reel combinations and the third inshore spinning combo. I consider all my combos a good value for the money, else I would not continue to order them. For convenience sake, these and all my other rods are in two sections. For the first time with these combos (though by no means my first with other orders from Cabela) I encountered a quality-control problem. One of the reels simply would not spin. Cabela, ever gracious about these things, sent me another and provided no-cost postage for me to return the defective reel. Because that reel arrived in a box whose cover was bent and had been opened, and because the reel in question was not even packed in the plastic bag within the box, I suspect that Cabela sent me a reel that had been rejected and returned to Cabela by some other customer. In any event, both combinations are serving me well in my inshore fishing on Florida's Sarasota Bay. Three of my Salt Striker combinations have been the lightest rods and reels possible (the other two are surf-fishing combos), and I wish Cabela would offer them in still lighter versions. These are too much for ideal angling after the smaller stuff which is such a delight to me to catch on my several other lighter rigs, but they are just the ticket for the larger and stronger fish. (When I am alone in my boat, I like to have eight or ten rigs ready to go with various offerings.) All in all, I am happy with these combinations. I take good care of them and they take good care of me. Still, my best rods and reels remain in Michigan, reserved for freshwater fishing.

Good combo

The rod is great. I have use done for a couple years. The reel is bigger and heavier than what I need and I don't particularly care for the big knob on the crank. I use 20 lb braid primarily for big redfish in saltwater. Rod also works well with 2 oz sinkers when we are fishing on the bottom

very good reel for the price

Bought this combo for a graduation gift but have purchased several of these reels in the past. I use them both fresh and salt water. I find they hold up very well in the salt and drag is very smooth, Most cheap reels are toast after just one or two trips to the ocean but these reels last.

Reel worked perfectly

Excellent erformance. caught a large Ray and the drag held up beautifully. Fish was much larger than the reel was designed to fight. I am equipping my whole boat w/ Salt Striker reels.
