WLz Test

The Cabela’s WLz Fly Reel
Available in sizes 1.5 (4WT), 2(6WT) and 3.5(8WT)
Evaluation Date10/15/2013
Location: Delaney Buttes Lakes, Colorado
Reviewed Reel Characteristics: Size 2, Cabela’s Prestige Premier WF6-F fly line, 100 yards of 20lbs backing. The WLZ is Cabela’s newest reel and as advertised is designed by Waterworks-Lamson.
The reel is well built, light and smooth. It has the Lamson influences in it style and design, still retains flat arbor vs. the “U” shape seen on a lot of newer designs on the market today. It differs from the WLx in color (lighter satin finish) and drag knob (smoother).
The reel was loaded up with a Cabela’s Prestige Premier WF6-F fly line. The review was done at Delaney Buttes Lakes, Colorado. Delaney Buttes Lakes is known for big (Hog Class) trout, so the reel would be tested. And it was, the reel was mounted on a Cabela’s American Dream 906-4 and used to fish egg patterns and streamers. Though out the day the reel had to assist in fighting and landing several large trout, ranging from 18 to 22 inches. The Conical Drag System performed like a dream, and the large arbor was great for taking in line. Several times large fish challenged the reel by almost getting to the backing, but the WLz stood up to the challenges.
This is an awesome reel, which would be a great compliment to any rod.

USA Made

I like the pole and the reel. Made in America by Americans...End of discussion.
