Cal Pump Seawater Circulation Pumps -

Seaweed-clogged intakes will cause marine air conditioning pumps to run dry, burning out the motor of most pumps. These sturdy, stainless steel and bronze pumps have thermal overload protection and can run dry without failing. The pump motor is permanently sealed in nontoxic lubricant for years of reliable running. Can be submerged.

Pumps are not self-priming and must be located below the waterline. Operates on 110V AC. Each pump is UL-listed, ABYC-compliant and USCG-approved. One-year warranty.

Pretty good pump

My aircon CAL Pump has been leaking oil since 2 years into service and finally, it trips due to overheat after 4years with total loss of oil. Simple solution, open the large allen grub screw infront of pump, pour in Luboil (same SAE 15W40 as for my diesel engine), re-orientate the cable entry to top facing and the pump is back in service. Was leaking oil through cable gland when gland was faced down. Great pump, no need to buy replacement.

I got 10 years of frequent use

I'm replacing my boat's original pump after ten years of using it heavily. It's very hot in AZ and we are on the boat every weekend, running the AC constantly. Since the last one gave ten years of hard service, I'm buying the same brand and model to replace it.

Cal 320 GPH Pump

The Cal pump is very high quality. It's casing is stainless steel and brass. It was easy to install, and has pumped flawlessly since it was installed. It's also very quiet.

I hit the jackpot when buying a Cal Pump

I invested in the larger pump and the penquins are jumping off the dock to get into the cold boat!

Negative Reviews:

Cal pump 1200 and 580

Since the boat came with a Cal pump 1200, I assumed this was the right pump for the job and replaced it with same. As experienced by other reviewers, I have had to replace the pump every one to two years. West Marine has always honored the warranty and provided a replacement, but it requires an hour in a tight space to remove and replace the plumbing and electrical connections. If one happens to run just over the two year warranty, you get to pay for a new one. These pumps are quiet, but run very hot - too hot to touch. My guess is that they were designed to run submersed in water, as in a fountain. The extreme temperature changes seem to cause the stainless cover to separate from the brass base, causing the oil to leak out, create a mess, and leading to motor failure.

Two years...Two pumps

I have replaced two MS-580s in two seasons. Each was used to run my 16K BTU Marine Air AC. While they appear rock-solid and are easy to install, both began leaking their dielectric fluid into my bilge half-way through the summer. While the company declares they have a thermal switch to prevent damage if the intake is clogged, it seems they do not shut off until they are already leaking. Unless you plan to only use these pumps a few months out of the year in crystal clear water, I highly recommend looking at another pump.

Replacing CAL pump for the second time

This is the second CAL pump I am replacing for my marine AC system. The CAL Pumps are increadibly easy to install. They look and feel like a quality product and run very quiet that it is difficult to tell when it stops working. Both stopped working unexpectedly right at the two year mark, when the warranty runs out!

They are a bit pricey to be changing out every other season so I will be providing a review for different brand this next time around.

Don't waste your money

This pump make runs extremelly hot. Called the mfg about this and they said I should run it in a bucket. Wasn't going to do that. Turns out at one point a thing called an ice cube was available. This is a plexiglass box that the pump used to circulate water around itself so it wouldn't fry itself.

West Marine shouldn't be carrying this product.

I have had two units in my boat and BOTH have leaked lube oil from in between the copper/brass and stainless fittings. The first was replaced under warranty, but now the manufacturer will not replace the second, as the "orginal warranty" has expired. Save yourself the headache of trying to clean up an oily mess and go with another pump. This one is junk.

Only lasted 18 months

Purchased this pump as an exact replacement 18 months ago. It has always run hot and now shuts down after running for a couple hours. Since the pump is 6 months out of warrantee, I will be looking for a differ pump as a replacement

Installed the 3 rd pump in three years only because it was a new system an I wanted to keep with the manufacture spec . when with a different pump now for a better return on my $$.

Pump leaks lubricating oil

Pump works well, but leaks lube oil from the housing. The stuff is difficult to clean up and leaves a smelly residue in the bilge. Warranty is not helpful and it cannot be repaired.

Rotten pump

Installed as replacement air conditioner pump on boat 11 months ago. Pump runs very hot and didn't even last a year. Would never purchase again.
