Fire Control Full Length Rest

Used it to sight in one new rifle and one I already had used previsouly. It speeds up the entire process considerably. I would estimate it was at least twice as fast as with my old rest. Overall, the performance was as promised. It was very steady and the precision/speed with which one can move the point of impact in all directions is very impressive. The build quality was pretty good, and putting it together was simple and fast. The screw feet made it very secure on the wood shooting table at the range. On the shot the rest barely moved and getting it back on target was super easy. As mentioned in other reviews, the two main gross movement controls are plastic. They seem to work fine, but I'll have to watch the durability. Also, the forward stop bolt that came with the rest was too big for the hole through which it was supposed to be placed. It was simple to ream the hole a little larger, but it is these small issues that can really negatively impact the perception of quality.

Doesnt work for me!!

I would like to give this a better rating, but after it chewed up the rosewood on a new rifle stock, I'm not to happy with it. It might work ok for a heavy bench rifle, but with my 8 lb 7mm Mag, the recoil kicked the rubber protector from the back of the holder and goughed both sides of my stock. NOT good. To begin with the rest is too long for my Rem 700 rifles, with the stock in place in the rear holder the front holder is out to far for the forearm to rest on, so the barrel would sit in the front notch. That can be fixed by gringing out the stops and redrilling the bottom tubes to move the front rest back on the frame. Barring the ruined stock, the rest does a far job of holding the rifle steady for shooting. The front and rear frame adjusters do gouge in whatever you have it sitting on also. would'nt recommend this as its built. I did return it with no problems. Cabela's is great on their return policy.

Not a steady,steady rest

The general idea is great------but,----- Useing a 36 power scope,I noticed considerable movement in the "steady rest" Rear rest, not easy to change.. Front control arm, hits the firearm

Caldwell Fire Control Full Length Rest

Upon arrival all screws and bolts needed further tightening. Not a big deal though. Also found that front rest was not properly aligned with rear rest. I repositioned it myself. Rough elevation adjustment tension was not properly set. Rifle would drop back down before I could apply lock. I adjusted it. All of these were minor problems but I expected more of their quality control. Major problem I find is that the rear butt rest needs some sort of an adjustable Velcro strap that would help prevent recoil. Putting your shoulder into the butt to prevent recoil causes sight picture to move.
