CamelBak Classic 70 oz. Hydration Pack - Discontinued Colors Reviews:

with modifications great for running

I modified this pack to accommodate my main use which is long distance running. I added a hoop to the chest strap to hold the drink tube stable and prevent it from bouncing into my field of view. I added a strap across the lower back where the arm straps connect to the pack. I wove the strap behind the bungee strap for added stability. On this strap I added 4 elastic hoops (2 on each side of the bungee strap. This will conveniently hold gel packs. It is much easier to reach the gel packs from these hoops rather than get them out of the small pocket while you are running. I relocated the chest strap to a lower position on the arm straps to help prevent chafing sores on my arms. I also taped down all loose straps once the desired lengths were determined. These modifications added minimal weight but greatly improved the use for me.

I run long distances. 20 mile plus. I chose this pack because it was the closest to what I wanted. It holds the right amount of fluid for my long runs. It is lightweight. Easy to fill. Nice quality. I have a Camelbak Octane XC that I have used as well. It is much warmer to wear on summer runs. It is also heavier.

I would recommend this pack for use for any long distance runners just be prepared to modify it to fit your needs.

With modification it suits my needs

This is a nice hydration pack. I use it on runs of 20-26 miles. I added an elastic strap across the back of the pack to hold gel packs. It is easier to get to than the pocket. I also added a loop on the chest strap to keep the drinking tube from bouncing while running. I adjusted shoulder straps to correct length then sewed them in place. This has helped to stop some chafing issues. This pack holds just the right amount of fluids for the distance I run. The modifications I made help to keep the weight lower than other packs with more pockets. I studied the pack before my purchase to make sure I could alter it. I am quite pleased with its performance.

Perfect for XC racing

I already own a Mule for my longer rides. However, it's pretty bulky when I just want to go on a short training ride or a race. The Classic is much lighter and perfect for races less than 3 hours. Bottles are difficult to drink from on rough XC courses and lead to dehydration. The CB makes it so much easier to drink that you end up drinking much more. No cramps or lost performance due to dehydration later in the race.

Lightweight and easy on the back

This is easy to fill, the water flow is very good and it's lightweight enough for running and hiking. It is a little tight across the chest, I'm 6'4" and 188 lbs. it would be nice if the flow tube was attached say with Velcro to keep it from bouncing around. Overall a good product.

Classics hydration

We were looking for something lightweight and easy for day hikes, bicycling, running etc and not too bulky. This fits the bill. It's easy to use and the capacity is perfect for our needs. Plus we got a great price since it was a discontinued color.

Great Product...even for long hauls

My daughter and I each had one on our family trip to Greece. We filled them for days at the beach...and they even went with us as we hiked up Mt. Olympus! The packs provided more than enough hydration for our day-trips...without weighing us down.

Works fine

Never owned one of these because I've used water bottles on my bike. This is really nice and a big improvement. I'm a rails to trails guy who takes some trips and this is what I need.

Great value

Great value. The large opening enables addition of ice. Older version had much smaller fill opening. Capacity perfect for MTB or hikes on hot days. Space for car keys & other small items when MTB.

Expand your range on bike or foot.

I use it for cycling and trail running. Very comfortable and I forget that I have it on. I chose lime green - to give me greater visibilty to motorist when cycling.

Great for hiking, biking, motorcycling

Use mainly for motorcycling, street and dirt but also for hiking. Like most Camelbak products, everything is well thought out and they keep improving over the years.
