CamelBak Groove Filter Bottle - 20 fl. oz. -

Use the CamelBak Groove™ Filter bottle to turn your potable tap water into great-tasting water that you can enjoy while at home, in the office or on the go.

  • Simply fill the bottle with tap water, screw the cap on and start sipping; the integrated plant-based carbon filter reduces chlorine taste and odors found in tap water
  • Bite valve has an articulating stem, so when not in use it folds down next to the bottle and stays clean

Weather and Wind:

  • Tritan copolyester provides excellent impact resistance and is suitable for both warm and cold beverages

  • Made of Eastman Tritan™ copolyester, the bottle is completely BPA-free and is dishwasher safe (do not put filter in the dishwasher)

  • CamelBak Groove Filter bottle should be used to improve the taste of safe water sources only; filter does not remove viruses, bacteria or protozoa from water
  • Just bite and sip and the beverage flows through the valve—you don't even need to tip the bottle to drink
  • Carry the integrated handle in the crook of a finger, or connect it to a pack or waistbelt with a small carabiner, not included
  • Filter is good for up to 3 mos. and is an easy way to enjoy tap water rather than purchasing disposable bottles of water
  • Bypass the potential hazards of drinking from wide openings—the CamelBak Groove bite valve virtually eliminates spills

My everyday bottle

I've been using this bottle since it first came out with complete satisfaction, so I haven't tried any other brands. I've been through many filter changes and a couple of bite valve replacements. When I bought it I lived in the Los Angeles area, where the tap water is theoretically safe to drink but smells strongly of chlorine. The carbon filter makes that water taste like - filtered water! I now live in a place where the tap water tastes good most of the year, but I'm still in the habit of taking this bottle with me in the car and to work out. I fly quite a bit, mostly back to California, so I take the bottle empty through security then fill up with whatever free fountain water awaits on the other side. I can't remember the last time I bought a bottle of water, so it makes me feel virtuous, too. I should add that I'm not one of those people who can taste the difference between brands of bottled water. You are in a different league. I'm just happy if it doesn't taste nasty. I see that other reviewers have had a problem with leaking bottles. I haven't, and mine is not always vertical in daily use, especially in my gym bag. But when I travel by air I take it out of my bag to use, so then I keep it upright.

Well worth the money!!

I usually carry two .75 liter Camelbak bottles with me to work daily filled with water from the home Brita pitcher, so when I saw this self filtering bottle I had to try it. I bought one for both my husband and myself and both of us "taste tested" our tap (city) water straight from the tap, through the Brita filter, and through the Camelbak filter. The water from the Brita filter did have a more filtered taste, but to be fair the Camelbak doesn't claim to filter out as much stuff as the Brita filter does. We both thought the water through the Camelbak filter tasted good and and much less chlorine tasting then the straight up tap water. I'm so excited that I don't have to lug around so much pre-filtered water with me anymore -- what a convenience!!! The only thing that disappointed me with the Groove versus the regular old Camelbak bottle is the smaller size. The Groove top is universal and does fit on my pretty .75 liter stainless steel bottle, but the straw doesn't reach all the way to the bottom. Hopefully in the future they'll make some prettier Groove bottles and some cozy sleeves that are sized just from them -- the cozy sleeves for the .75 liter bottles are way too big.

Great Bottle, Listed Weight Incorrect

This bottle is great. I can't tell if it's the straw (which is easier than you might think to pull water through) or how fast it is to open and close, but it has helped me drink twice as much water as other bottles. Slight leakage from mine if I leave it sideways, but it's not very much at all and takes a few minutes before the first drop falls- no big deal really. Taste is great after you rinse the filter for several minutes (an ironic waste of water). My only complaint is the weight listed is not correct. I bought this bottle to use as an AFTER FILTER when using Aquamira (Chlorine Dioxide) water purification drops while backpacking and I had a hard time justifying a 4oz water bottle in the first place, but this thing weights 6.5oz dry. I'm not taking stars though, because this could be REI's mistake as Camelback does not list the weight on their site. If weight is important to you, try a Bobble brand bottle instead.
Bottom Line - Best water bottle I've ever used; better taste than a Britta (IMHO); a little heavy for backpacking.

Best for travel

I generally carry my nalgene and fill it with filtered water at home and at work for everyday use, but this little bottle comes with me every time I get on an airplane. Once I make it through security, I stop at the water fountain and get my free, filtered H2O fix for the trip. No painfully expensive airport bottled water for me! The capacity is small, which is one reason why I don't use it daily, so make sure to refill just before you get on the plane and on any stopover. Haven't had any issues with taste or leaking, though I try to toss it upright into my carry-on bag. I'm not too keen on the bite-valve on an upright water bottle - it feels more awkward than one on a tube into the reservoir on my back - but it certainly doesn't keep me from making good use of it.

Great for on the go

Funny thing is, I got this for outdoor activity, but I love using it everyday indoors. My favorite thing about this is using it for airport travel. I travel a lot for my job, and want to stay hydrated on the plane. I can take this through security empty then fill it up at a drinking fountain, or just have a restaurant fill it up for me... and I have great filtered water for the plane. Also works great in hotel rooms when you don't want to pay for $6 bottled water! I also use it in the office and often get complements on how nice the bottle looks. Love that you can't spill it. Love that you don't have to twist off a cap everytime you want a sip. I definitely stay more hydrated everyday thanks to the Camelbak bottles... and the Groove make my travel so much better.

Excellent water bottle

First of all, I love this water bottle. I have been looking for a while for a good filtering water bottle. I bought this three months ago to replace purchasing bottled water and to stay hydrated on the go. It goes with me EVERYWHERE! The size is perfect. It holds just the right amount of water so I know that after four fill ups, I have surpassed my 8 glasses of water. It has made the water at work and the gym extremely tolerable to drink. I love the bite valve on this bottle. It doesn't leak and you get such a surge from it that you don't even realize how fast you guzzle the water. The bottle is extremely durable and easy to carry. I have even put the full bottle in my purse and it has never once leaked. There is nothing I would change about it.

LOVE it, but needs improvement.

Camelbak's bite valve system makes it easy to drink from, helping me to drink more water than with other bottles. The filter definitely improves the water taste and is very convenient as well. My problem, however, is that the bite valve becomes moldy in the inside after a while, but taking off the bite valve for cleaning, as is instructed, seems to damage the straw portion inside of the cap making it no longer air tight or not lock in properly, making it no longer leak-proof. I hope Camelbak will consider using antimicrobial plastic so the valve won't have to be pulled off to clean. Another option would be if the whole lid could be sold as a replacement part, not just the bite valve and the filter.

Perfect H2O for travelers

Originally went to buy a "Better Bottle" but 16 oz was too small & 25 oz seemed big, thus got this 20 oz size w/ great filter, which was perfect. Bought it just before going on a trip. Now that you can't bring water through security, this provides good tasting water from the water fountain on the other side of security so you don't have to buy expensive water from the airport vendors. Bottle will pay for itself in 2-3 trips for regular travelers. Taste tested versus Reverse Osmosis and Britta and water tasted great; way better than tap and very convenient. Unsure about the review that stated water tasted funny, maybe didn't rinse the filter before using. Highly recommend for everyday home/office use as well as travelers.

Great tasting water again.

I had always disliked the tap water out there as it has a metal taste to it. Not like the water I remember as a kid growing up. Now with this filter in the bottle I can have great tasting water all over again and it it wonderful. My daughter loves hers as well. The price is a shocker but it comes with the filter and the filter is good for 3 months and the refills are the best deal ever. So the way I look at it is for the price of the bottle + the refills, we will have great tasting water for over a year all year around. Great deal and great tasting water is alive again.

Easy way to hydrate

I bought this because I needed a consistent way to follow the 8-8 rule, i.e., drink eight 8-ounce glasses of fluids each day, and to save money by not having to buy as much bottled water. I debated between the 20-oz and 25-oz versions but I liked the smaller size for its compactness and lighter weight. I love the cool-blue color. Camelback recommends rinsing the carbon filter under running water for 20 minutes, which I followed, but I believe it should be rinsed for a longer time because but I felt a minor irritation in my throat from drinking the filtered water. After two refills, the filtered water caused no other issue for me. Highly recommended!

Negative Reviews:

Way too small

If the size of this bottle were bigger, it would be getting five stars. But with the small size that it is, I can't give it more than one. I am constantly refilling it. Constantly. I can't make it through a class without it going from full to empty... and not just the hour and a half TTH class. In the MWF 1 hour classes, I take a few drinks and it's empty. Do yourself a favor and purchase a larger bottle. Get this when they increase the size. It's too small (I filled it up before I wrote this, and it's already 3/4s gone... and it took me less than 5 minutes to fill out this review).

More trouble than it's worth

I'm not really sure I understand the purpose of this bottle. I guess if you live in an area where your water tastes bad there may be some benefit to filtering it. I didn't really notice any major difference between my San Francisco tap water and the filtered version. The bottle leaks slightly. I find that using the mouthpiece feels very unnatural and almost irritating. The cleaning instructions are rather extensive in their detail. I'm all in favor of putting an end to serial bottle usage and resulting waste but this isn't a product I could recommend. I'd prefer a plain bottle with a tight-fitting lid.

So after buying this bottle, I rushed home to use it. I put the filter in and washed it out a couple of times...Now I had recently bought a ZeroWater filter which came with a TDS Tester. So I tested the water that came out of my water bottle (it was hard to get out but I did) and it was 60! That's not good! The water from my tap tested 40 and the water from ZeroWater filter tested is what I want...any comments? Does it take awhile?

Water tastes like Thanksgiving Dinner

The silicone mouthpiece "bite valve" retains tastes and odors like no other. I would imagine this would be the same for all other CamelBak products (their chief IP lies in the bite guard, apparently). I made the mistake of using this bottle to wash down some Thanksgiving leftovers, so now my water tastes like gravy. Cool, refreshing gravy.

I'll stick to my 40oz KleenKanteen for my gen-purpose hydration needs.

Funky After taste

Not sure if I got a bad filter, but this bottle gives a bad aftertaste. I have the older style better bottle without filter and there is not after taste.

Neutral Reviews:

Can be good, depending on your needs.

I intended on using this product at work, when I go to the climbing gym and for travel, since I fly 4-8 times a month. I had gotten this as a gift this past December and upon using it, it constantly sucked up bubbles/air with the water and leaked horribly when placed sideways even when it was closed or tipped. I looked at the lid, looked on the Camelback website and did what I could to keep it from leaking (checked the little valve, but it didn't stop, so I returned it and got a new bottle at REI. After using my new bottle here are a few things I realized:

- If you fly/go to high altitudes keep in mind that this is wear and tear on the bottle and it can mess with it's leak-proofness. If you read the manual, they recommend that you keep the bottle upright and that there could be water spurts. DO NOT leave it sideways - this will lead to a pool of water whereever you leave it!
- The water sometimes tastes filtered, and after using it for several months, i sometimes felt a minor irritation in my throat due to the charcoal. It went away after the filter was used 4-5x. Otherwise, I thought the water tasted fine.
- Capacity is small, but camelback expects that you fill up the bottle 3-4x a day.

Due to my water situation at work, I tend to tolerate a lot and this has helped me drink more water. Hopefully second time is a charm and that this new bottle lasts!

Not for well water

We have well water that has a sulfur smell and iron/metallic taste. The filter so far is 50/50 for taste. Some days, presumably after our water has ran for a while, the filter does great and my water tastes excellent. At work, same situation; the water fountain is from well water with a very metallic taste, too strong for the filter to handle. I go into the ladies room, let the water run for a minute (i know, i know, i hate wasting all that water too...) and then fill the container and the filter works decent removing most of the bad taste. Conclusion: not so great for well water, better to buy something with a stronger filter intended for removing particles. For the price, and the fact that I can use it in airports, most of the time at home, and anytime I'm out and about I'm still glad I bought it.

OK, as long as you don't bike

Purchased to improve taste of water at rest stops, parks, etc. BUT it doesn't fit into a standard size water bottle cage on a bike, so not very useful to us.
