Seriously, get this pack.

After graduating from college, I wanted to step up my gear so it was less of a backpack and more of a daypack. I absolutely recommend this pack. It is amazing for daily use - I use it everyday as my workbag. It holds all my files, books, waterbottles, misc. items. Then, I also use it every weekend when I trek up to the NE mountains. It holds all my day hike needs (and plus some given I'm usually hiking with another who needs me to hold their gear). It also is an amazing travel bag. It expands to be a pack that fits more than you can imagine without being bulky. Then, when you want it to just be a camelback, it works wonderfully.

I have used it for travel cross-country to hold luggage, dayhiking to hold gear, SpartanRace as a camelback/fuel pack, and a commuting bag for daily work needs.

I even bought the pack for my boyfriend for his birthday. We both absolutely love this pack. It's amazing.

Works well for motorcycle touring

I bought this pack for use when motorcycling in the Texas heat. It works very well for that task, accepting a large amount of ice and water, sufficient to get through most of a day. The extra storage area in the pack was large enough to contain my rain gear (big bonus).

What could be better: a tube clip on the LEFT shoulder strap (it only has one on the right). When I'm riding, and I want a drink, I need to keep my right hand on the throttle and use my left to manipulate the drinking tube, and there's no good way to secure it so that it doesn't flap around in the breeze.

Pro tip: when on a long, multi-day ride heading north, make sure to taper off how much you drink, or else you'll suddenly find yourself having to stop very frequently!

Great for Mountain Biking and Hiking

Very comfortable for serious mountain biking. 3L capacity provides plenty of water. Can last me for a 2 hour ride on a 90F day. May be a little too long if you're less than around 5'4", but anywhere over this the bag will fit great. Water system works great and there's plenty of storage space. Used it for biking and for a day hike with my family. Has enough space for some snacks, keys, wallet, phone and other small stuff. I'm very happy that I got it. The colors are hideous IMHO but that's just personal taste.

Just about right

Got this thing for mountain biking. Its got just the right water capacity for a long ride and just enough pockets/room for some extra gear and snacks. The only thing I wish it had, but isn't a big deal is the rain cover that the next model up has (don't need it for biking, but it would be handy for hiking). I didn't like the fixed straps on that model, so I got this one and it fits the bill very well. I would recommend it to a good 1/2-3/4 day bag.

Puts actual camels to shame

Good solid backpack, meets my needs. I drink as much water as a literal camel so this is nice and I'm always carting around extra gear (photographer) so the extra pockets are essential for me.
Recommended for people who drink outrageous amounts of water and like to have the option of taking some stuff on a hike.

4/5 stars because it's a bit of a pain to get around all the pockets, but I imagine it's impossible to make a roomy AND compact backpack.
stjanie at REI on 07/07/2013

Love this

I love being able to carry my water on my back and just drink when I want to without getting out a bottle or having to stop. This pack enables me to drink and carry my things with me.

Just got this thing and i love it! It has a ton of room, lots of pockets and holds a ton of water. Its comfortable and lightweight.
CowsHaveClaws at REI on 08/08/2013

exactly what you expect

I love this. It works well and has enough room for things but isn't too large.

Great!!!

Great hydration pack. Plenty of room for all you need yet not bulky.

Negative Reviews:

CamelBak M.U.L.E. hydration pack review

Unfortunately, I returned this pack because it was uncomfortable on my back. It has 3 or 4 horizonal "pads" across the back for cushioning that feel like wooden 2x4's when riding (esp with a full pack). The cushions have hard edges. Previous designs had soft squishy edges on the pads. Why the change?! I also feel the pockets weren't in the places I would like. I bought this pack to replace a CamelBak that had "squeeky" shoulder straps-I'm not kidding...really annoying when hiking. (Forget about hearing nature).I returned the squeeky one and bought this one...took it back due to it being uncomfortable and ended buying a different brand of pack altogether. I have liked CamelBak in the past ALOT, but probably won't go back after 2 bad packs in a row.
