The Canada Goose Aviator Hat might as well be called the Coyote Hat. Why, you ask? This Canada Goose hat features a coyote fur ruff visor and earflaps, a turn-of-the-century feature that was used to keep pilots warm in open cockpits. Maybe you won’t find yourself flying in any open cockpits, but you will find yourself fully protected from the elements in this hat. Coyote fur never freezes or holds water. Paired with the water-resistant Arctic-Tech fabric exterior, The Coyote…err, I mean Aviator Hat keeps your head warm, dry, and safe from chilly winds.

I got this hat for my trip to the Arctic in February. Yes, it looked silly, yes it was entirely too warm to wear around Connecticut this winter. But once we reached Dawson City, I broke this baby out and was so glad I had it with me. As a rule, I'm not a fan of fur. After doing some reading, I decided that it was the best option for the conditions I would be in. There's a reason the native population use fur - it serves a real function. At -40 (which is the same in C and F) with a wind, I was completely comfortable. The down lining kept my head warm, the flaps covered my ears, the back of the hat completely covered the back of my head, and the fur kept the wind out of my face, adding extra insulation. If you're not dealing with extreme cold, this hat might be overkill. But if you are, it's the only way to go!
I love this hat! It's got two modes, which I call "Russian" and "Canadian".
In Russian mode the ear flaps are clipped up to the top and it looks like someone frisbee'd a road kill onto your head... In a good way though!
In Canadian mode the flaps are down (and can be secured by the strap if it's cold and windy) and it looks like someone frisbee'd and then glued a slightly larger road kill onto your head!
Of course it's mega-warm.I was walking around one windy night at -25C with a buddy and he had a beanie on and was rather chilly, whilst I was quite toasty thank you. The coyote fur is soft and wind/snow proof. The hat is also down lined. I think it looks awesome (some of my friends disagree!) and I've had randoms come up and take photos of it.
I Love this Hat. Used it for the past 3 weeks to deal effectively with the blizzards we've experienced. It kept the blowing snow off my head & really felt warm the whole time was shoveling snow. Worth every penny. For kept my face from getting pelted by sleet/snow combo during this last NorEaster. Have the matching Aviator Jacket too.
