Photograph your own feet AND the room

I have used this lens for only a week and I love it! It will focus automatically in nearly no light and is quite light for an L glass.

It did not overthrow my walk-around-lens, but for some applications, the incredible wide angle works wonders! You literally have to watch your feet and arms so they don't turn up in your composition.

The only real concern (con) I have with this lens is that you MUST carry the lens cap since the front element sticks out about half an inch, and if you want to take a picture at 8mm, you must remove the lens hood so it doesn't cover the top and bottom of your picture.
At 8mm it doesn't cover the whole sensor, you will get a circular image in the middle of the frame.(On a full-frame sensor at least.)

Also, due to the extreme wide-angle of this lens, it has heavy optical distortion, but it is to be expected at 8-15mm. However, this has a really cool quality to it: if you frame your subjects right, the distortion will make people taller and thinner!

Being an f/4, it works beautifully with sensitive cameras like the 5D Mark III, I took flash-less pictures at a party with VERY low light at shutter speeds of around 1/30 with ISO set at 6000-8000.

On a 5D mark II it still is not open enough for flash-less shooting at receptions/parties, but coupled to a mark III, wow, it surprised me, especially with the ease it focuses without any assist-beam.

You'll get whole scenes with one stroke, I'm taking this lens on my bag whenever I travel!

This lens is exactly what I wanted my entire life but I didn't know it until I purchased it. Allows you to be creative. If you are looking for a 360 circular image including one that is an inch from your subject you have it. There are items that show up in the photo that you wonder where they are at in reality. Be careful not to get your body parts in the photo (feet). Also allows ultra wide angle photos. Quality unsurpassed. I use this lens much more than I would have ever thought. Except for some telephoto shots, you could leave this lens on your camera forever.

Must have lens for creative photography

This is a must have lens for creative photography.
It worls as well on my full frame MKII as it does on my X1.6 60D.

Truth is.... I may never remove it from the MKII as it gives me results better than I expected.

As good as this lens performs and as well as the lens is built.... the lens cover seems to have been an afterthought by the designers.....
This is the only reason I cannot give this product a 5 star rating......
My advise buy the lens..... Deal with the cover....

One of my favorite lenses! Love it!

I feel like I have waited on this lens FOREVER, so I may be a little bias, but I absolutely love it. It did not disappoint my expectations in the slightest. I feel like the creativity that this lens allows is limitless. The only con I have to this lens is the vulnerability to the glass. Obviously there isn't a lens filter available, and that is worrisome for those of us whose lenses never go without a filter. All in all I recommend this lens highly!

finally - a truly useful fisheye

Fisheyes were always sort of entertaining, but hard to make practical use of. This lens on a camera with a full frame sensor (5D or 1Ds series) can give a super wide field of view with a full rectangular image and really not very severe distortion. I thought I was wasting money when I ordered it, but I find that I use it a lot.

Super Fishy!!!

Awsomely versitile fisheye. No complaints with this lens, super sharp and fast. Ive used on full frame and crop sensors and always get great results. Sold the tokina and got this one. Really like the limiter so you dont get too wide. The only odd thing is the front element protrudes out so be careful not to hit the glass. Solid solid solid...

Lens great, hook is loose

I waited this zoom fisheye for a while and bought it once it is in the market. It performs everything it claimed. However, on 8mm end it is not very practical. I used it mostly on 15mm, and of course the same result can be achieved by the original 15mm fisheye.

I just love it

This is a stunning fisheye lens. It creates great images. Brilliant for landscapes at 15mm, but a real definite fisheye at 8mm. Since getting this, I've used the lens a lot more than I ever thought I would. I love it.

Redefining how we see things

A long user of the Canon 15mm square fisheye, this lens has brought new utility and a great cross over for video and still. Using the 1080P video on camera has the perfect lens now for great effects.

Excellent lens

Excellent images, very sharp. Must use full frame sensor, like Canon 5D Mark II to get full fisheye effect. Started using lens with Canon 7D, got excellent wide angle photos, but muted fisheye effect.

Negative Reviews:

great lens - but not for me

This lens could provide wonderfully creative options in the hands of photographers so inclined. My photography tends to be much more literal, and the built-in distortion is less useful--and less desirable--for me. There's nothing wrong with the lens; I just made a mistake in my purchase, thinking I could incorporate the distortion into my nature photography. After using the lens, I think that possibility is extremely unlikely.
