Good Value

Fit and finish is excellent on my 870 Express. Shoots Remington Sluggers 3" high with rifled choke and 4" high with cylinder choke at 50 yards out of the box with the rear sight at its lowest (factory) setting. Both were dead center. Slugs punched round holes with the rifled choke and obrounds with the cylinder choke. I can live with that. Looking forward to patterning it with the collection of Rem Chokes I have accumulated as the short barrel swings great.

Good barrel

I was skeptical of purchasing the barrel at first but after buying it and shooting it, it was a good purchase. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because I had to wiggle the barrel on to the receiver and was not as seamless of a fit as my rifled barrel. But I ensured the fit was correct and the shot pattern is good. I would recommend this.

Decent Economy Barrel for Turkey

Right price for short barrel. Combined with good choke it produced an excellent pattern. Successful Spring Hunt. Craftsmanship is better than expected.

18.5 barrel needs work to extract properly

I purchased the 18.5" cylinder choke for self defense. After installing the barrel and put it through a simple function test. I found that it would not reliablly eject 4 rounds in a row. I compared it to my Remington barrel and found that the Carlson barrel was not machined properly at the extractor groove. If you take a close look at the pictures, the Remington barrel has a small gap between the rim of the shell and the chamber. This allows the extractor to engage the shell properly. The Carlson barrel has no gap at all. (see picture) I am not advocating that you do this and am simply sharing what I did to my barrel. I decided that instead of going through the hassle of returns and exchanges I would use a file and carefully remove small amounts of metal from the Carlson extractor grove until I had a gap similar to the one on the Remington. It seems to function properly now. I need to use it for a while and see what happens, but I'm pretty comfortable with the outcome.
