Designed specifically for use both in water and on land, the Castelli Women's Body Paint Tri Short is the ultimate in aerodynamics for the body. A special low-profile Lycra and near-seamless construction create a micro-layer of turbulence around your body that allows you to slip through the air and water with the least amount of resistance possible. Castelli also included its Tri-specific KISS chamois pad, designed to add comfort on the bike and to disappear on the run.
Castelli's Body Paint Tri Short is a whole new way of looking at specialized triathlon clothing. It feels as it sounds, like a barely-there skin layer that's been painted on. However, this isn't a byproduct of design, but the intent itself. In fact, every aspect of the design works to make the fit as precise as possible. This way, by eliminating fabric bunching and pulling, airflow passes over the shorts more freely. Integral in this concept is the fabric selection itself, a soft, lightweight Lycra.
Furthering this attribute is the shorts' nearly seamless construction. The legs feature a one piece design that flows continuously to the upper regions of the shorts. This keeps the intended shape of the shorts intact, and in doing so, reduces your aerodynamic footprint in the saddle.
This brings us to the shorts' aero- and hydro-dynamic benefits. It all comes down to managing airflow, and coincidentally, the human body accounts for over 90% of aerodynamic drag on the bike and 100% of hydrodynamic drag during the swim. To mitigate this, the shorts have been made to be what Castelli calls 'slippery.' By combining a nearly seamless design with a low-profile, compacted thread Lycra, air and water flow remains attached to the body as it comes off of the helmet and front of the bike during the ride, and the head and shoulders during the swim. Through this, turbulent air is controlled, and your drag numbers decrease. The Body Paint Tri short also has a new feature at the legs–dimpled endings. Not only does this control turbulent boundary layer airflow (think of a golf ball), but it also doubles as a slightly compressive area of the shorts.
The integrated leg grippers don't feel like they're binding your legs, as some grippers can. They hold your leg subtly, so you don't notice them as you ride, run, or swim. Castelli achieves this effect by knitting the grippers directly into the fabric at the hem, so everything lies flat and gently grips your leg without binding.
Rounding off the shorts is Castelli's triathlon-exclusive KISS Tri chamois. Castelli designed the KISS Tri to work most effectively while you're in the aero position on the bike. It trimmed away unnecessary foam to optimize comfort during the run and swim portions of your race. The removal of excess foam also allowed Castelli to make the pad wider, thus moving stitching away from the crotch to avoid irritation. A liner on the front of the short adds support to make you more comfortable during the run.
Castelli Women's Body Paint Tri Shorts are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the color Black.
