Sometimes it's not quite cold enough for a skull cap under you helmet, but you still need something to keep your head warm. The Castelli Viva Donna Headband is designed specifically for the female rider who needs to stave off Jack Frost from biting at here ears.
Castelli constructed the headband from its Thermoflex fabric. This material features a polished polyester finish on the outside and a lightly brushed soft fleece on the inside. Essentially, the soft interior traps warm air against the head, while the breathable outside allows moisture to escape and evaporate. This way, you're able to stay dry without running the risk of overheating. Additionally, the fabric was also left raw at the edges, meaning that it won't bunch under your helmet.
However, you're probably wondering what makes this headband women's-specific? Well, it features a small trapdoor in the back to accommodate a ponytail. It's a small detail, but it adds up to a big deal when you have long tresses.
The Castelli Viva Donna Headband is available in the color Black and in one size.
Using an old sweatshirt sleeve as a headband used to cut it … in 6th grade. Grow up, pull on the Castelli Viva Thermo Headband and join the ranks of the properly attired. Castelli’s Thermoflex fabric traps body heat to keep you comfortable when the temperatures start to drop, and the raw cut edge lies flat, even under a helmet.
Finally! THere is a headband that works!.
I have owned probably half a dozen differnet headbands in the past, including Castelli that were the worst.
The fit was loose, the material was wrong and they were too narrow to actually cover ears or remain in place.
This head band solves all of that! It is a wide band with great coverage, nice soft burshed material, stays in place and keeps my head handles warm.
Wear it by itself when it isn't too cold...down to around 50F (thus allowing some heat to escape as you warm up) or a little below or pair it with a cap (I use a craft windstop under 45F) to really keep things nice and toasty.
I own a gazillion skull caps/ ear warmers that work on some level, but fail on some level... THen I tried this one. It is absolutely, hands down perfect. It is warm, lightweight, stays in place over my ears and has a ponytail slice in the back which works perfectly. Soooo comfy, you don't even know its there (except that your ears are no longer frozen!). Eliminates the forehead marks and is thin enough to allow me to wear a skull cap over it if the temps are in the lower 40's. I will be buying an additional one in another color. It is one of those don't leave home w/out it pieces for me.
Every other headband I have ever used has seams at least at top and bottom resulting in severe "dent" marks in my forehead which look mighty dorky for several hours after the ride. This has none. Very thin, stretchy and comfortable. I found quite warm, in part because it is so wide so has significant coverage. Looks really good, too.
Super thin thermal material is brushed on the inside for warmth and comfort. I wear this underneath my roubaix fabric skull cap on cold, windy days. I'm a 7 5/8 hat size and this works for me, but it is quite snug. As with anything Castelli, the colors are well thought out and vivid.
You are only paying for the name on this headband, it just barely kept my ears warm on a low 60 degree early morning ride. For the quality of the item I could see paying 10 dollars for it but not 20.
