This Is All You Need | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I go this item two years ago as a gift, and this is all I need. This computer provides you with all the readings that are essential. As far as instructions go, they are only difficult if you cannot read pictures. After staring at them for a minute, they become simple and straight forward. Only issue I had with mine was that the pin that locks the computer in place on the mount assembly broke off and after a while, the computer shifted during rides and lost accuracy because the electrical contacts shifted away from each other. However, I was able to replace the broken one for a new one. Everything is fine now. One more thing that can be improved upon is the calorie count. The calorie count formula is pre-set with an averaging formula. This would be better if you could personalize your calorie count. At the very least, they should tell you how the calorie formula is set so that you can get an idea as to how close it relates to you. Other than that, I have no need to change systems. | |

Great Bike Computer | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This bike computer is very accurate and I tested it out. I Map Quested the nearest store and looked at the estimated distance, and then I rode my bike there and checked the distance on my computer. The computer was within 0.1 of the estimated distance! I've removed it from the bracket a lot and I haven't had any problems. PROS: 1) The pace arrow that tells you if you're above or below your average speed. 2) Total trip time. 3) Fairly large screen compared to some other models in the same price range. 4) The price CONS: 1) No LED backlight for night riding. 2) Settings are for 1 trip only, so you can't set it to multi=trip. 3) It uses a sticky strip to attach to the handlebars. I'd rather have it be a screw on bracket or something so that it's guaranteed not to fall of (although mine never has). | |

All I want at a great price

| In a world of overpriced toys, this is a great bargain! I've just crossed 600 miles on the odometer and have had 0 problesm. For [$] I know how far I've gone, how long I've been moving, how fast I'm going now, and what speed I'm averaging. I really don't need to know any more than that. I'm no mechanical genius but I got it installed with no problems. | |

does what it should, ignore calories

| I found this unit easy to use, fairly easy to install and reasonably durable. I've had if for about 6 months and haven't had any trouble. Nothing fancy, don't buy it for the calorie counter as it can't be remotely accurate. For the price, it is good value. | |

Great Value | |

| You can't get a better value than this cycle computer. Personally I don't need to pay [$] for a little computer to tell me that I am spinning my pedals fast. | |

Don't waste your time | |

| Let me start off by saying I really like Cat Eye computers and have used them for a few years. However, this Velo 8 computer is not a good product. 1st The installation instructions were just illustrations. I like a little text to go along with each illustration. 2nd the zip ties used to attach the sensor and computer are really weak. I must have snapped 4 of them just trying to tighten the computer down on the handlebar. 3rd after setting up the computer I discover that the sensor is bad so the computer won't display speed, mileage, etc. So I returned it for an upgrade. My recommendation: spend a little bit more money and get a nicer computer. The Cat Eye Mity or the Strada are far nicer for just a bit more. | |

Don't waste your money | |

| I was very disappointed with this product for the following reasons: - The zip ties that came with it all broke when trying to fasten it to the bike. Had to buy additional ones in order to install it. - The instructions for installation/setup are cryptic at best. - Setting the different options is a pain in the rear. Not only are the instructions vague, you have to go through several button clicks (press a set button on the back of the unit; set the desired value, press the mode button, press the set button again) - The calories burned are inaccurate. There is no way to set your age/weight, so it is a very rough guess at best. | |

Great while working, not durable
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I bought this computer almost two years ago, and it has served me well for being so cheap. I love how there is only one button and it is so easy to set up and use. While most computers require the magnet of the wheel to come within 1mm of the sensor, this model allows for a 5mm gap. However, there were two problems I experienced with it. I recently did a lot of biking in Maine, and it rained for 11 out of 14 days. After some heavy rain, the computer mysteriously stopped recording data only to work for five minutes and then stop again. Even though the Cateye computers are supposed to be waterproof, it seems that some water got in around the button. Also, the mounting system for the computer and the sensor are zip ties and double sided tape, which doesn't leave much room for error. This cheap mounting system broke early on and was a not as strong when I moved it to another bike. All in all, this was a great unit while it was working and I would give it 5 stars if not for its durability. The main thing is that it lasted a long time and it's very inexpensive as cycle computers go. | |
