The paddles I received are Caviness brand, made in USA. As with several other reviewers, the two paddles I received had rough, thin, and uneven finish, but more importantly (to me) the glue-ups and wood seemed of decent quality. 4.5 and 5.0 foot lengths I purchased are both very lightweight. There are no logos or decals on either paddle (OK to me). I sanded them and did some minor shaping and tapering on the blade ends and then finished them with a few coats of varnish (Epifanes clear gloss, first coat thinned considerably, really soaking open grain at handle and end of blade). The paddles turned out very nice -- look good, seem strong, and should last. I use exclusively wooden paddles for kayaking and canoeing, and have several higher-end paddles. I got these for kids to use with the canoe, shopping primarily based on price, and accepting that some refinishing may be in order. For this, they fit the requirements perfectly -- AND, they're made in the USA (adding to the value, in my book!). The next step up is the "Caviness RD Twin Stripe Wood Paddle", which also looks like a good value, given the nice looking dark wood laminates, and the reinforced blade tip. That paddle also appears to be a good value, and should probably be considered if you're looking at these economy paddles. One final comment -- the blade on the 4.5 foot paddle is considerably smaller than that on the 5.0 foot paddle. This is fine for my application, as smaller kids may be using the smaller paddle.
I bought this for use as a wall decoration and it looks great and is the perfect size. Cabela's will also tell you anything you need to know about the product including all dimensions. I'm sure this would be a great paddle if you wanted to use it for canoeing too!
