| Ecological, Comfortable, and Attractive - This is my second pair of Unaweep Z/2 Chacos. My first pair was an 8 mens, as the store did not carry a women's wide. This pair, a 10 wide women's fits just as well. The Atlantis strapping is beautiful; the arch support is very supportive without being too firm. I have owned my first pair of Chaco Z/2s for over three years and they get a great deal of wear as my daily footwear and light hiking shoes. I have had them resoled twice and restrapped by Chaco for a reasonable price and terrific workmanship. The Z/2 is very comfortable, once you get used to the toe loop. I need the extra stability for hiking and cycling. It is very durable, and as a sport sandal goes, stylish and actually kind of sexy and feminine. I used to wear Birkenstocks because they are so good for your feet, but I hate the rather clumpy look of the original sandals. I feel I get the same sort of support from the Chaco Z/2, but it is a more versatile shoe, great for walking everywhere. The only downside to this shoe is that because the shoe bed is a polymer, the shoes and my feet stink terribly after a couple of days of wearing them. However, these shoes are completely waterproof and I clean them down with baking soda and a brush in the tub or wash them in the machine. A very durable, ecological shoe because of its ability to be resoled and restrapped. Zappos did a great job of shipping this shoe. Kudos to Zappos! | |

| I've had my Chaco Z/2s for over 6 years now. I wore them nonstop all summer as a camp counselor during each of those 6 years and I haven't had to resole them yet. They are by far my favorite shoes of all time. I got my shoes when Chaco only had about 3 colors and 2 styles for women to choose from, and since they've expanded their line, I have purchased several more styles and colors. As a music teacher on a cart (I travel from room to room daily) who has fallen arches, I wear these whenever it's seasonally acceptable and my feet don't ever bother me. I wore them to hike the Virginia section of the AT, I wear them in the water, I wear them to exercise...you get the idea. The only problem I have had with them is that after years of wearing them everywhere, including in the Chesapeake Bay, there is some sand inside the soles that keeps me from adjusting the toe strap if it feels too tight. However, it's nothing that couldn't be fixed by resoling. | |

| What a great sandal! I had ordered another type of sandals (Teva's) when my son insisted that I HAD to try the Chacos (he's always in the know about this type of stuff) so I ordered a pair. Both pair arrived about the same time so it was easy to compare. Hands down, these are the best ever. I started wearing them around the house (winter in the NE means snow on the ground) - yes the foot bed was a bit rough for winter feet - but I know I will be glad about the traction when water is introduced. Love the support - I am no longer young, so my knees and ankles are not as strong as they once were and I feel confident and sure footed in these. I played with various adjustments on the straps, but eventually found a way to make them perfect. Great that there is the option - a feature that should work for lots of folks. Cute too - love the blue color. | |

Z/2 Unaweep Sandal - Women's. I just bought my first pair of Chacos and I am sold hands down. There is a learning curve with getting the strap just right and it needs tweaked every now and then but the sandals are fantastic. After I bought mine I went to visit my son who is a river guide in Glenwood Springs, Co. and found out he just sent a pair in for resoling, He swears by Chacos, and his girlfriend has several pairs too. I have gone hiking on gravel, over big wet rocks on the coast, in sand and never a slip. I feel very sure footed in my shoes. And I love the red color. My boyfriend is envious of the red. His are your basic black Chacos. All in all a great shoe, worth every penny. I will be getting more in different styles. Julie Hadley, Travel Nurse

I am a Chaco fan, and I am just as pleased with the newer sole, Unaweep, as I was with the older style Colorado and Terreno soles. The Unaweep sole is lighter than the Terreno, and you can definitely appreciate the difference when hiking all day. I agree with some of the other postings that the toe strap of the Z2 and ZX2 tightens a bit when new. I found if I keep the other main section of the strap near the buckle slightly more loose, the toe strap doesn't tighten as much. After a while, the toe strap seems to stay more in place, and doesn't keep tightening. The strap patterns are great, the one I bought, Twiggy, is more unusual in its random looking design. I haven't seen anyone else with it yet...

one little problem | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
I recently purchased a pair of Z/2's. I have been wearing them around the house and to the store to break them in and find that overall they are comfortable but have come across one little problem. The strap seems to slide easily and tighten on my toe while walking. I called the Chaco Customer Service and she told me that they soak the straps in something that makes them smooth. What I need to do is slather the straps in Simple Green then wash the whole sandal w/a load of jeans and let them dry. I will do this since I have a river hiking trip planned in 2 weeks but it seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a pair of brand new sandals.

| My feet are as flat as they come and are becoming more painful as I age. This is the ONLY SANDAL I can wear. I have to use custom orthotics for all other shoes and can't wear anything non supportive for any length of time. Even standing bare foot is usually painful. I do not have troubles with the strap strangling my toe like I have read about, in either double strap/single strap Chaco style. I will be buying many more pairs of these shoes, THEY ARE WONDERFUL! Worth every cent. Zappos is awesome because of the free shipping/return you can order one pair and if the size is incorrect simply return and try again. I hope the Chacos help your feet like they have helped mine! | |

Great river sandal | |

Who doesn't love the Chaco? Actually, it took me a little while to get used to these sandals but now I love them. they conform to your foot so well that I wasn't used to it. Anyway, I wore it on a river trip last weekend and was so impressed with the performance. In fact, I didn't even notice that I had them on. Which is a good thing when you are on a river trip. I never worried about them falling off or dragging me under when I was swimming. In fact, I only noticed them when I got sand under my arch when I was walking on the beach. They fit really true to size and are good for just about anything, especially the water.

| Wonderful for flat feet! I have the flattest feet my podiatrist has ever seen, and I used to wear Birkenstocks religiously until the Dr. told me to find shoes that hold my feet together more. I have had large flat feet my whole life and have never found a good pair of open sandals until I found these. I absolutely love these and they provide just as much support and comfort as a well loved pair of Birks. You will not be sorry if you have flat feet and are in search of a sandal that won't kill your feet. They're durable and you can replace the worn down or broken parts of the shoe. Definitely a good investment! | |

Love them, but inconsistent

I have several pairs of Chacos, and have worn them over 9 years, and I love all of them, but I had to return my most recent pair because the arch on one of the sandals was so much higher than the other. I couldn't believe it, but in comparison with my other pairs it was really obvious. I have also tried on a pair at a store where the arches were slightly uneven, and still bothersome. I still generally love the sandals for the support and comfort, but make sure you check your pair, where them around the house a bit to really verify whether the arches are even.

| Didn't work for me. I need a lighter weight sandal with a flexible sole. These straps are adjustable which would be great for my narrow feet, but I need softer straps. I can imagine these sandals would work very well for most people - I have very picky feet. | |

so sad... | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
...I was just sure these would be the bomb - I wanted a good shoe for hiking that wouldn't skwish my toes and rub blisters on my heels - these looked darn near perfect, what with the open toe and fully adjustable everything. I was willing to overlook the weight issue - light they are not - as everything else seemed fine. but once I got them, they were just killers - the right foot was ok, sorta, the left foot was awful - the arch support extended to well under the ball of my foot and did just awful things to my foot posture and comfort, and these are not cork footbeds that adapt, but rigid footbeds that are going to support your foot No Matter What. my arches are high, supple and strong and the last thing I want to do is screw them up, so I had to send back these beauties. I kept them here for a couple of weeks, just looking at them, feeling pretty sad, and put them on and wince and go back to looking at them, but I can't afford to keep shoes I can't wear, no matter how swell they are, so I traded them for some kinda mini-watch-altimeter which probably won't bother my arches so much.

| They're fine, but I don't love them - If I had it to do over, I'd probably look elsewhere. The sandals do offer good support and stand up to hours of walking, but the straps need constant adjustment and if they are not adjusted just right, they rub after awhile. They also tend to kick up dirt and gravel if you're on a dirt path, which then gets stuck on the footbed and one's foot. They look fine, maybe even good in a crunchy granola kind of way. I like them, they serve me well, but I don't love them and for the price, I feel like I should. | |

Wear them for a bit... | |

I think you really have to try them on and wear them for a bit. I need an arch support but not one that slopes so far forward to under my toe. I wish I could like these as they seem to really stay on well. The diamond patterns rubbed on my foot and was not comfortable...maybe this would have gotten smoother over time. I think these work for a lot of folks, which is great, but not me. I also tried the wides but they fit very differently than the regulars. They are cute though!

That darn toe strap | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
I love Chacos (I have like 6 pairs), but I can't do the ones with the toe strap. On every pair I have tried, that little strap digs into my toe and it HURTS. No matter how much adjusting I do, it never really helps. My big toes are indeed big, so if you have the same issue, these sandals probably aren't for you. Try the Chaco Z/1 series instead.

i like the color (basil) and the apparent durability of these sandals, but i have to say they take some breaking in... i've worn them for a week and have blisters (more like small cuts, from rubbing) on both big toes, where the toe loop and strap cross. perhaps the ones without toe loops would've been more comfortable...
