The Vibram IdroGrip sole on the Z/2 Pro is a vast improvement in terms of wet/dry traction. I just finished a several day fishing/whitewater rafting trip and think that the traction these shoes provide probably kept me from falling a few times. Scrambling over smooth, riverside boulders (dry or wet) was easy, and traction was much better than with my regular Z/2's or Keen H2's. In-river traction (on mossy rocks) was as good as it gets for a non-studded shoe. Chacos provide good arch support, and the strap allows you to have the sandals as tight or loose as is comfortable or necessary. Also, I think that the toe loop of the Z/2 provides quite a bit more stability than you have with the Z/1.
In short, this is an excellent shoe if you are in and out of water, or do hiking that involves some scrambling (where traction is very important). However, it is a marking sole, and can wear down fairly quickly. So if you are just wanting a sandal for everyday use (or casual hikes), the Pro sole probably isn't necessary.
I love wearing these. They are really comfortable once you got the straps adjusted to your feet and when your feet are used to them (the straps can rub and create sores if your not used to wearing them). After all of that, I can't not wear these! i wish my employer would allow me to wear them because they are so comfortable. they also were great on some recent trips in Southern Utah as well which required some traversing on slick rock and rivers. My only suggestion is to try them on before you buy them to determine which style you like more (toe strap or no toe strap) and to break your feet into them before you go on any big trips. I would do it by not tightening the straps all the way, then progressively tightening them as you wear them more and more. They fit true to size as well.
Great sandal, awesome for hiking. The vibram sole makes a big difference. I like the fit, although it's not perfect. The sandal tends to loosen up after a few hours but it's just a matter of pulling the strap tighter and keep going. Also the strap is kinda too long so it's always hanging and dragging on the floor. Those are minor issues, so I'm still voting 4 stars because I use these all the time, both for hiking and to work. Great product.
I love my chacos i never ever go anywhere without them. From the roughest white water to climbing free hand to sunday morning church services these things take me anywhere and everywhere i want to go. If you dont have a good pair of shoes and dont mind the price get these shoes asap!! The chaco z/2 unaweep pro are your best choice, even though they are only a little more than the standard they perform better.
the new soul they have on this sandal has to be the best thing i have ever had for the river. i guide on the ocoee river and no matter in or out of the raft they hold grip. i can't tell you how many time they have kept me in the raft, or how much easier it is to run around in the raft with these.
Great Sandal! They run a little narrow, so if you have wide feet you might want the Z/2 Uniweep Wide. I have only owned Teva's in the past but i'm completely satisfied with my new Chaco's. the only downfall is that the strap's need to be modified so they arent dangling when cinched tight.
FYI... The color eleven means that is is the Pro color for 2011, and will only be made this year.. Next year we have 12...
heel too narrow. i dont have "wide" feet but needed wide model chacos. other than width, great sandals
Ordered these expecting the aggressive vibram sole pictured but they came w regular sole...disappointed.
Absolutely the most comfortable show I have ever worn.
