Great Shoe - Order Men's if Ladies are too narrow - I bought this shoe looking for something I could wear around the pool and not worry about getting my feet wet. I also wanted something stylish that I could wear out shopping as well. I had debated getting a pair of Birkenstocks for the comfort. After the first time I wore these shopping I was so glad I bought the Chaco Hipthong instead. While I was shopping it started pouring down rain. I was able to get out to my car and not worry about getting my feet wet and ruining my shoes. I continued shopping despite the rain and I was amazed at how quickly the shoes and straps dried out. I was able to wear the shoes all day and my feet didn’t hurt. The straps were starting to rub in a few places but nothing unbearable. Overall these are great shoes, very comfortable and functional. I ordered my first pair in a women’s size 10. I loved how they looked but the straps cut into the tops of my feet and the sole was a little too narrow. I was very disappointed that I had to send them back until I found the same style in men’s sizes. The men’s size 9 fit perfect. The straps were looser and more comfortable. The sole was also wider and fit my foot better without being to chunky. I think these are going to be my favorite summer sandal.

I ordered my son a pair of Chaco's on a Monday hoping to have them before departing for vacation the following Saturday. First, the price was quite a bit less than anywhere locally I could purchase them. When I completed my order, I received notice that they would be received in 5-6 business days. Thinking I may not get them in time, I sent an email back to customer service inquiring if I could pay extra for express shipping to get them sooner. I got the typical generic response about receiving my inquiry and that someone would be in touch soon and I blew it off. Well, to my surprise, I got another email only minutes later. The email said that the shoes would be sent next day air at no extra cost. I was shocked at the prompt response and even more shocked in that I offered to pay the extra fee for shipping, but Zappos picked up the cost of same with no reason to do so. I am sold on Zappos and will always use them if they have what I'm looking for on future purchases.

The best flip-flop cross over, period. I can't believe I just bought these! Now that I have your attention, I'm going to tell you how comfortable these Hipthongs are. I am a Chaco can, and the best thing about it is, I can say that I have had a pair for about 6 years and counting. That’s not something you get to hear for many shoes and by far no flip flops I have ever had, will ever last as long as Chaco’s do. However, having owned a pair of Chaco’s that the size being M-9, and ordering these, I got a size bigger, because I felt the length wasn't as long as it needed to be on the Hip-thong. I have wide feet, so if that describes your foot, then I'd suggest getting a size larger than you normally do with these, just so they are long enough and fit just right. Most comfortable and convenient slip on sandal I have ever had. Great for walking, and short jogs, moonlight hikes with your loved ones wearing the same shoes...ahh... memories to come.

Great flop - I love this product. It took about a week to break in. It gave me a small cut on my middle toe on both feet, however, after about a week, it was gone. They are very supportive and do not "flop" due to the fact that you can tighten them on your feet. I read one other review that claimed that they were difficult to slide your feet in to. This statement is probably true, if comparing this shoe to other flops that do not have as much support, however, I have not had much of a problem at all getting these on my feet. The benefits of having them stay on so well outweighs the negatives of these shoes taking more time to put on. I am very pleased with these flops.

solid performance down under

Rating:*****

i broke these bad boys in for about a week before i took them on a week long trip to tasmania - and lets just say the took just about everything i threw at them: rock hopping in gorges, steep mountain trails, deep sandy beaches, dodging wombat and wallaby poo and 80k bike rides through wine country. in all conditions they felt like a dream. the only spot of trouble was in the thorny depths of a wild blackberry patch, but hey, that was probably my fault for wearing open toed shoes into a patch of prickers. overall a solid well supported sandal. don't worry about the lack of a heel strap, they stick without it and it makes em a bbbbreeze to get on and off.

These are the sandals that started it off for me. So comfy, terrific heel and arch supports. My feet were hurting me SO bad, ordered these because I saw them in a magazine (for those with foot trouble. ) They feel like heaven!! So much, that I have had my hipthongs for 2 weeks and have already added 2 more pairs of Chaco's to my sandal collection. A total of three pairs in less that 3 weeks, that speaks comfort! You can't go wrong! I bought the men's for the width and I wear a regular width in ladies normally. I like the solid platform in the width of the men's. So if you are having heel and arch pain...give these a try!

Breaking in the Chaco's Hipthong - The Chaco style that I loved has been discontinued to I went with the thong as the next best thing. The break-in process has been long and a bit on the uncomfortable side. I have scars on my feet where the straps caused blisters and then scarred over. The thong has caused the worst blister at the base of my second toe. Honestly, it hasn't been painful - which is probably why I didn't notice the 'damage' until it had scarred over. But they're still Chaco's and the support is fantastic. I guess it might have been good if there were some helpful tips on breaking in the sandal.

More a sport sandal than a flip-flop

Rating:*****

This is a very versatile sandal. With the strap loose, they are pretty much like a flip-flop (but, of course, with much better support and stability). But crank the strap down, and these will stay on your feet (in or out of the water). If you are used to flip-flops (and the feeling of the 'thong' between your big and second toes) these will feel very natural. On the other hand, if you know that you are going to be doing a lot of scrambling in these (or frequently going in and out of the water) I'd go with the Chaco Zong, because they stay on better and have better lateral stability.

Shoot you dont need to with these puppies! I love the soles, Great support. They are so comfy and feel like they are a part of the foot. I have a pair of these and the z/2s and I find I wear these more often if I am just cruising around and need a quick shoe on. I have a size 12 and my feet are wide too. I normally wear a size 12. Most people I see fit a size up though since they do not make half sizes. I mean it is a sandal it is nice to have it a bit bigger anyways. Go get yoself some!

Nice sandal - I had Chaco brand before, unfortunately I left them in a hotel room. I missed them terribly, so had to Order a new pair, tried these hipthongs. My girlfriend was always stealing mine (even though they were huge on her) so I also ordered her a pair and she loves hers. They are a little hard to put on until you get the hang of them, but are very comfortable, and of course will last forever with the Vibrim soles. My girlfriend says the adjustable straps are a little long on hers and wants me to cut them shorted so they don't drag on the ground.

Negative Reviews:

Beware, straps are not adjustable

Rating:**

My boyfriend got these sandals, and was very excited to try Chaco after only using Teva previously. The ones he got that were the correct length were too loose in the straps, and the ones with the proper strap tightness were too short for his feet. The straps are not adjustable, and they can also not be sent to Chaco for repair. I guess the take-away here is that if you have slightly narrow feet, stick with Chacos that can be adjusted either by you, or by sending them to Colorado.

OK So I read all the reviews and you must be joking! The fixed strap should be adjustable; it does not allow your foot to go far enough forward. It seemed like your foot went in a little crooked. If you want a sandal buy KEEN! If you want a thong buy TEVA! These are far more comfortable and worth the price. I cannot say the same about these. Love Zappos; think I'm going to get some Salomon amphibians.

The adjustable strap is a must for those of us with narrow feet. Unfortunately, even with the strap cinched to the limit it isn't quite tight enough to make wearing these a carefree experience. I have no choice but to modify (shorten) the adjustable strap. Making the other cross strap adjustable is a no brainer ... so why didn't they do that too? Surely it wouldn't have pushed the production costs that high. I'd return them because they really don't fit as they should out of the box, but no one else makes anything like them. So I will keep them and hope some slight modifications will make them work for me. Better luck to others with narrow feet!

Hipthong good for your feet & mind

Rating:***

I have had these sandals for over 10 months. This is my third pair of Chacos. I have always liked the contour of the footbed of this brand and the Vibram soles. I have 2 EE (width) in the front and this is very comfortable and supportive. I will say that initially wearing the sandal did take a little getting use to due to adjusting the straps to your comfort and size. I would recommend the shoe for people who need arch support, who have wide feet, and who want something reliable in the form of function and some style. It's not Metro Sexual but it does feel good on the feet...state of mind.

Size not a true fit

Rating:***

I have a pair of Tevas in size 8 as well as couple of dozen other pairs of shoes, all in size 8. So what size should I order for these Chacos- size 8, right? Wrong! After having waited for them all week, I just got mine. A big too small and snug. Heel hangs off the back a bit. They're going back to backcountry.com. They don't have size 9 so guess I'll have to go to a local REI store.

Pretty good...if they fit - Just got some hipthongs from Zappos. Man their customer service is unrivaled. The hipthong is a good sandal if you have medium width feet and medium to low arches. Not for the high-arched, wide-footed folk...namely me. Super durable construction and resolable. Wish they came in widths and were rewebbable like the Z/1's and Z/2's. Maybe in the future.
