The Chrosziel Optical Collimation Tool Kit consists of Null Lens and Null Target for setting the BFL of a Red One camera (PL-mount).
The NULL Lens is designed specifically for the RED One Digital Cinema camera. It requires no special tools or measurement devices to function. To accurately set the camera's backfocus, just place the NULL Lens into the camera's lens mount, point the camera at an object a minimum of 50 m (150') away and adjust the mount until the projected image becomes sharp.
The NULL Lens is constructed without any moving parts that could slip out of alignment. It is small, convenient, easy to use and affordable, making it an essential piece of equipment.
There are some circumstances, however, where pointing the NULL Lens at a distant object might not be practical; for example when setting up in a van at night. The NULL Target was developed to address these situations. It contains a backlit Siemens Star, a focusing target that makes it easy and accurate to judge focus. The optics in the NULL Target bring the Siemens Star into clear focus at infinity.
The NULL Target screws into the NULL Lens, then backfocus is set with the NULL Lens as usual - only now, since everything is built into the NULL assembly, adjustment is made by bringing the target into focus.
The combined NULL Lens / Target kit is small and lightweight, internally powered, reliably accurate and easy to use.
