Great with Clik packs, but too small

Rating:****
I bought this SLR ChestPack along with a Clik camera backpack. The best thing about it is the way it works with the Clik pack. It snaps right into fasteners on the front of the pack and you use the straps to adjust it to the most comfortable position for you. This is a problem I have been trying to solve for years by rigging up my own harness. None of my creations worked even half as well as the solution from Clik. The ChestPack itself if pretty sturdy and has good number of little pockets and slots for holding useful things. I would not describe it as fully padded or weatherproof, but that's not really a problem for me. It's designed to give you quick and easy access to your camera. If I'm in a situation where I am getting drenched or thrown around, my SLR is going inside the well-padded Clik backpack with the weatherproof cover. I only need the Chestpack to function in conditions calm enough for me to be taking pictures. One issue I have is that my SLR (Canon 5d Mark II) with a 24-105 lens would not fit in the ChestPack. I could barely get the zipper closed if I struggled, but that defeats the quick and easy access selling point of this product. And if you are putting a too-big camera into the ChestPack, it might get scratched by the beefy zipper pulls that are exposed on this inside of the ChestPack. The zipper pulls are normally fairly well-covered by the interior lining, so I think this is only an issue if you are stuffing in a camera that doesn't fit.I suppose should not criticize the ChestPack for being too small, but I think a medium should fit my configuration. The whole Clik system is designed to let you bring along different lenses, which means a photographer will likely have a pretty long lens on a camera at some point. It's not like I am trying to put some super-zoom lens into the ChestPack. In any case, I still love the whole concept and I will be purchasing the large ChestPack instead. [...]

Well made, but too small for NIkon D700

Rating:****
I would have used the chest pack for day hikes and overnighters, but, it is too small for the Nikon D700. The Clik Elite website shows that a large chest pack will be available, but, they give no date of arrival.

Not-so-plush on the inside

Rating:***
The design of the bag allows you to access your camera quickly and easily on the trail. This is why I ordered the bag and so far I haven't been disappointed in this regard. The construction of the bag leaves a little to be desired however. The product description describes the bag as "plush" and "fully lined" but I would not describe it this way. I am not sure what the bag is supposed to be fully lined with because it doesn't appear to be lined with anything. I was excepting the interior of the bag to be lined with that micro fibre fleece material commonly found in many camera bags but only the inside of the top flap is lined with this material. The rest of the interior uses the same nylon material used on the exterior of the bag and seems a bit unfinished and lacking. The padding used throughout the bag also feels a bit skimpy (not plush) for a bag that is supposed to be used in harsh conditions. Finally, the "beefy" zippers are so big and oversized that they do not form tight seal when zipped together in the closed position and leave a small gap that makes the interior vulnerable to contamination.

good bag, but it really is too small

Rating:***
I bought this bag so I could take my Canon 450D with me on backpacking adventures. I wanted a bag that is comfortable carrying 2 pounds of SLR and lens for 10-15 miles.

This bag meets that requirement very well...but it is too small. My 450D is not a large SLR, but with my 55-250mm lens on it, it just barely fits, and I mean just barely. You have to crank a bit on the top lid to zip it closed with my camera inside it.

I was hoping to upgrade to the large chestpak, but unfortunately REI doesn't sell it for some reason. I bought it somewhere else and it's just bigger enough that my camera and lens fit nicely inside.

As for the padding. It's not quite as plush as my LowePro Slingshot, but it's not bad, and it is really comfortable to wear. It makes a heavy camera feel like no weight at all.
