Great addition to my sleep system

I bought this after years of rolling up shirts and shorts to rest my head on. I also previously purchased a small non-inflatable travel pillow a couple years ago, and it was worthless. I thought if I could get something inflatable it would work better for me, and this pillow seemed to fit the bill.

It has exceeded my expectations in some areas and fallen short in other. But mostly exceeded. The only thing I really don't like is that you can't sleep on this pillow when it's fully inflated. Your head will slide off to either side, as there is no give to create a depression for your head to rest in. I personally inflate it to about 2/3rds capacity and that is just right for me.

Now, on to the pluses. The pillow is very comfortable. It has a microfiber type loose padding on one side that feels great and really give a true pillowy feel, instead of a baloon wrapped in fabric. The looseness allows your skin to breath when it's right up against the fabric.

It's also not too small, but not too big. It packs down crazy small, and is very light. I have had no leaks.

If you need some comfortable support when you're camping, this is the pillow for you.

Supportive for side sleepers

This pillow has been a companion of mine for the last few years of backpacking in the sierras. Accompanied with a neo air inflatable sleeping pad, it has been invaluable in allowing me to sleep at night. As a side sleeper, additional support is necessary to get your head up near your shoulders. I usually wear most of my clothes to bed, so stuffing extras and using that as a pillow just wouldn't cut it for me. I try to avoid bringing too many comfort items, but I can live with the extra few ounces to have a good nights sleep. The pillow has been durable, never leaking or needing repair. The only caveat is the overall shape. I would have preferred if the pillow was contoured as it can be difficult to find the sweet spot for comfort. If I have any extra clothes with me, i only fill this pillow up halfway and stuff clothes on top. Fits well in the hood of my mummy bag. The bottom is a felt like material, so it stays put pretty good. Overall, I would recommend this pillow, but doubt it's any better than some of the similar products out there.

Quality product but too hard

This is a great little pillow if you can stand firm/inflatable pillows. It is durable and well made, no holes or air loss after a year, and I like the feel of the soft felt side as well as the slicker green side. I have used it several times with various degrees of success/comfort, but it has never quite been comfortable enough the get any good sleep. This last trip it was deflated halfway and I still felt like I was sleeping on a rock.
The pillow is a nice size for camping especially at the weight and it packs down well, easily fitting into its stuff sack. Just not for me. But to be fair I didn't buy a SleepNumber bed because I felt the mattress never got soft enough even at a 10 - which is the lowest number possible at my weight.

Great compact pillow.

Very good pillow. I have a therm-a-rest pillow, a stuff-sack pillow, and an inflatable pillow I made. This is my favorite. It packs down nice and small and is comfortable when inflated. Realistically, it isn't your home pillow ... but that shouldn't be your goal here. There are compromises to achieve a lower weight and smaller size and this pillow finds a good balance.

Backpacking pillow

Just returned from two backpacking trips to the Beartooth Mountains and Isle Royale. Added the pillow as a present to myself. Much better than the balled up sweatshirt in my sleeping bag case pillow. Can adjust firmness easily during the night. Packs into my sleeping bag case. No complaints. Seemed like an extravagance but was worth the expense.

Great camping and travel pillow

I have tried several types of travel and/or camping pillows and even though they may help and serve others, they didn't help me in any way. I like that this pillow is easily packable, light weight, supportive, and has 2 different toppings. I own 3 of these pillows from the same manufacturer and highly recommend any of them.

Best I've ever found

I've tried a number of different pillows for backpacking, and this is the best by far. I used to use a thermarest, but it was relatively heavy and didn't compress. This pillow really folds down small, but inflates to a very comfortable size.

I need a pillow to be comfortable backpacking, and this is highly recommended.

Inexpensive and convenient

I wanted an inexpensive backpacking pillow, and this is great. Small size, comfortable to sleep on. I had tried another pillow that wasn't inflatable, which wasn't cutting it, this one is so much better, more supportive and actually packs down smaller.

Shock the monkey

I'll be taking it to the Frank in Sept. I'm going light and it is light. My kids have already tried to swipe it from me. I can rest easy with this under my head.

Love the pillow

Had a great night's sleep on this pillow. I use a pillow case to keep it a little cooler and clean. My girls will be getting them for Christmas.

Negative Reviews:

Noisy, bouncy, kept me up.

I bought this thinking I'd like the extra support an inflatable pillow would give me vs. a small foam or down pillow. I liked that it packed down ultra small and light. However, if you inflate the pillow all the way to achieve maximum support it gets very bouncy with every head movement. If you let some of the air out the ripstop nylon gets loose and sounds like you're sleeping on an empty bag of potato chips--right by your ear. I finally ended up tossing it aside and sleeping on a rolled up fleece.

Very disappointed in this product; I bought this to decrease bulk in pack and to offer a unique approach to traditional back country pillows. The pillow requies only 3-4 breathes and it's full. Not too full, and not too squishy. First glance, I thought this would quickly become one of my favorite items and fell short after the first night. I had to repeatedly add air through the night... needless to say, mine somehow sprung a leak after 1-2 uses. The pillow tested fine initially at home, but failed in the back country.

Hated it.

I tried this for 1 minute before my trip and determined that I hated it. If you like inflatable pillows this will probably work for since it is a bit softer than others I have used. I was hoping to get the comfort of a regular pillow with the compactability of an inflatable pillow. This pillow was not it. I am returning it.
Luke at Campmor on 08/08/2013

Product didn't work for intended purpose

My first and only use was on an airplane. The pillow deflated in less than 1 hour. I plan to return it as it would be useless on a camping trip.

Neutral Reviews:

Not bad, not great

This is an ok pillow if you need something really compact and lightweight and have no other options. It is a little too inflatable, with very little foam core which means it is only comfortable if partially inflated. It beats using folded up clothes, but didn't really meet my comfort expectations. I found it was more comfortable and less slippery (it's only flocked on one side, which is annoying)when wrapped in a travel towel or fleece blanket.

Air Bag

It's called "air core" I expected that it would have padding wrapped around a core of air. It is just an air bag. I don't know anyone who can sleep on just an air bag
