Coghlans One Cup Coffee Filters Reviews:

Why didn't I think of this before?

These suspended coffee filters are so easy, you have to wonder why you didn't think of it yourself. Even my clever grandma wasn't using these.

I like them because they weigh nothing and take up no space and they are cheap. You can put a couple of these filters in your shirt pocket, suspend them over your mug with a twig, sprinkle in some coffee from an empty film canister (remember those?), and voile' you have coffee.

In my group, everybody likes their own different coffee or tea - regular or decaf, Starbucks brand or Folgers, flavored or plain, etc. This answers that problem without having to brew a whole pot of compromises.

I like it for home because many days I just want one or two cups of fresh coffee rather than a whole pot. Zippity Doo Da and I have a cup of my flavor of the moment.

Of course... the real tightwad can do this by folding up a paper napkin or towel, but why bother when you can get the real deal for so cheap.

Works Like a Charm

These one cup coffee filters worked very well. Throw in a scoop of coffee and pour hot water and your done. The only draw back is that the kit comes supplied with a plastic stick that you use to hang the filter on within the cup. The stick doesn't seem to stand up to the constant pouring of hot water on it and starts to bend (after about the 3rd or 4th day). The manufacturer needs to make the stick of less pliable material. To rectify this I fashioned my own stick out of a BBQ skewer, cut off at the appropriate length and ground down to the correct thickness. It of course weights more than the plastic but it is marginally more. You could also use a thin tent stake(or piece of wooden stick) if the plastic failed on you while on the trail.

One Cup in a Small Package

The filter have worked without any incidents. You can fully load them with coffee(not recommended) and they have never failed or ripped on me. It is best to use them about 3/4 full (or to taste) as they drain better.

The downside is the plastic stick that is supplied with the kit. The stick will tend to bend and warp from the boiling water constantly being poured on it. You can replace it with the correct thickness round tent stake or I cut a BBQ skewer(metal) to the correct length and use that in place of the plastic.

When coupled with a Primus stove, a Primus Kettle, a GSI Nesting Mug and Bowl, ground coffee, sugar and powered creamer I have everything I need in a relatively small package to brew up fresh coffee (or tea) while on the road(motorcycle) or trail(hiking).

Replaces my titanium french press

Bought this on a whim, became essential gear on the first trip. Doesn't get any simpler. I paired this with my double-wall mug for the perfect ultralight brewing system. Just place the coffee in the filter, suspend in the cup an then pour boiling water in a slow steady stream through the coffee until the cup is full.Cover. Leave coffee to steep about 3-5 mins( this is where the insulated mug comes in handy). Lift out the coffee, drain remaining drops of caffinated deliciousness. Enjoy. I also noted that I used less coffee but drank more than usual. Win win.

Fast and light

Coghlan's One Cup Coffee Filters makes a good cup of coffee easily and quickly. A wooden hanger would be preferred because it would not melt or break as easily as the plastic one. I purchased some wooden skewers and chuncked the plastic hanger.

Favorite traveling filter

These go in my luggage with a bag of grounds. If I can scrounge/make hot water, I have great coffee. Easy to rinse and get two cups per filter.

Great for backpacking!

I've used this on numerous backpack camps...just bring some ground coffee and brew. Make sure to give it enough time.
