Coghlans Firesticks Reviews:

Survival kit staple

I try to pack pretty light, but I always keep a stick of this in my emergency kit on any backpacking trip. Unless the wood is really wet, you don't even really need to use a full stick - I usually break it into thirds or quarters. That way, I can depend on having a fire for 3 or 4 nights on one stick. Love 'em and have used them for years.

When you get to your destination late...

Must have for survival pack! I was with friends doing the 7 Peaks of Peru in VT. Great hike into the Kingdom when a squall came in unexpected, the day was turning into night and it was getting cold and everything was wet...boy these sure helped out making the camp fire get started, I will always carry them with me when on day hikes, backpacking, or even river kayaking!

My firestick experience

While rideing on my motorcycle, doing interstate motorcycle tent camping and touring, I always carried a package of these with me.
When all others in the area couldn't get their wet wood to light, I had the only fire going.
Strange thing about it was, no one ever came over to ask me how I did it, when everyone else failed. :-)

I have been buying these for years

I use these for 2 things: starting the fire in my wood stove (less creasote buildup) and for starting ceremonial fires. They always light, don't blow out in the wind, and last long enough to catch larger pieces of kindling.

How to Start a Fire Even with Moist Wood

These fire sticks lit even somewhat moist wood when I needed to get a wood stove going during the Northeast October storm and blackout. They were great!

I have used these for 20 years!

Fire Sticks are excellent for canoeing, camping & picnics. Safe, economical way to start fires....even with damp wood. I have used these for 20 years.

Works as advertised

Great for the backyard BBQ to light up wood charcoal without noxious lighter fuel fumes.
