Kukri

Not too bad for the price-works well, handle material is a little slick, but all and all I was happy with the purchase.

Material and QC Problems

I have owned a number of Cold Steel products over the years, and this is the first one that I have been disappointed with. The blade steel is very soft and the build quality is disappointingly poor. When you purchase this Kukri at Cabelas, the blade is sheathed and it is inside a large plastic bag so you can't see the blade or edge. Assuming it would be up to the typical Cold Steel standard, I decided to buy it anyway. Upon opening it up at home, I found several defects. The blade coating was uneven and blotchily applied, the handle material was unevenly molded and had sharp edges, and most importantly the edge was VERY poorly formed. It was not sharp at all and the bevel was very uneven - like it was ground off-center. It had a pronounced folded-over "wire edge" burr and the tip was very blunt. It took quite a bit of work with a file and sharpening stones to get a good edge. Up to this point, despite the poor QC I thought it would still make a good tool because I expected the steel was of good quality. I was sorely disappointed to find that the edge suffered significant nicks and dents when using the kukri on small brush that never did such damage to even cheap Army-Navy store type imported machetes that I had used. It appears the steel is extremely soft. As a result, this is the first Cold Steel product I have ever bought that I would not recommend to others. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.

low quality

THIS KNIFE MADE BY COLD STEEL WHO UP UNTIL THIS I THOUGHT OF A GOOD, QUALITY COMPANY. IS EXTREMELY DULL THE BLADE NOT EVEN WHEN I WENT TO ACTUALLY SHARPEN IT THE EDGE WAS SO OFF CENTER IT TOOK HOURS TO GIVE THE KNIFE EVEN A HALF WAY DECENT CUTTING EDGE. WHEN USED AGAINST ANY HARD WOOD IT DOES NOT KEEP ITS EDGE VERY WELL. THE COST IS LOW, A GOOD KNIFE POSSIBLELY FOR EMERGENCIES.
