New Family Lantern

We needed a new lantern. We're getting back into camping with our 7 yr old son and needed more than just flashlights and star light. We already had a Colman spotlight that used the CPX6 battery pack, so we thought this would be a nice addition. It is, very bright, even in low setting. One problem we encountered was the battery on bottom. The pack pops in very securely, but the tab to open and remove the batteries from the pack is exposed. When I sat the lantern down outside our tent, the release got bumped and partially opened , losing contact. So the next night it wouldn't power on. After checking the battery pack, I found the reason. Otherwise, very happy with this purchase.

Lights Up the Tent

This doesn't have the powerful light output that my friends' gas lantern does, but I do like the two light settings. The battery compartment comes loose when the lantern is set down firmly (never mind slammed down onto a table) and when you lift the lantern by the handle the connection is lost and the light goes out. The fix for this is very easy: turn the thing over and pop the battery compartment back in. Some duct tape would fix this issue.

Overall, this is a good product. Very useful for late-night walks when you have to let the dog out of the tent at two in the morning and keeps the picnic table bright at dinner time.

Colem CPX Lantern

Perfect for tent camping. Casts a very nice light - both levels.

Great light but not for camping

I love this lantern for use when we lose electricity in the house. Unfortunately, when you pick it up to carry it somewhere, the light goes out. This is a problem when you pick it up to take it to a tent or the outhouse when camping. You are left in the dark unless you push on the bottom as you carry it.
