Coleman Clam Propane Combo Reviews:

Good lantern, better case, great value

This lantern / clam shell combo is a tremendous value! The lantern is a classic Coleman propane lantern. This model doesn't have the self-igniting button which is fine with me since they seem to have a high fail rate anyway. Still, super easy to light. The dimmer switch clicks from position to position so you're not having to mess with the knob to get the correct level of light or at-risk of accidentally turning the lantern off when trying to dim the light. The highest level of output is not as bright as the higher-end Coleman lanterns but it is PLENTY bright and more frugal on the fuel usage, as well. I use my lantern atop a propane tree so I can't speak to the quality of the stand. The clam shell case is a winner. Made of a pretty beefy plastic, it form fits to this lantern with internal pads that rest on the globe to prevent breakage. I am very pleased with this product.

Good lantern, great case.

Bought this to try out for Boy Scout Troop. Our previous lanterns suffered a pretty high rate of broken globes, partly because of the poor case design that allowed the lantern to fall out the bottom when carrying by the case handle. This clamshell case should help with that. After inaugural campout the boys agreed this is the lantern we should move forward with. The combo deal is a great deal. We will be ordering 10 more. We will also order the wire baskest to help protect the globe even more.

Troop Worthy

We purchased one to try out for our Boy Scout Troop for the "clam shell" case. The Scouts can be hard on equipment and "standard" case contributed to a lot of breakage. The lantern is a good lantern and the clam shell case proved to really help reduce breakage. We bought 10 more of the "combos". The price is really good. Campmor didn't have 10 in stock, but they promptly shipped the additional lanterns at no extra cost when they became available.

Good quality and price

I was feeling nostalgic for the sound of a lantern reminding me of camping with my dad as a kid. I got more than nostalga- I found that the light is far superior to the LED lanterns, and while I thought that using propane would intimidate me (I have a fear of propane!) it's actually really easy to use, just screw on the top and set it in the base and turn it on, no sticking matches into it.

Great products

I have used Coleman equipment for years. I have tried others but keep coming back to Coleman. I will use this for camping, fishing, and around the house outside at night. Nice carrying case to help protect lantern. No fuel to spill, and can hang or mount on propane tree.

Coleman Clam Propane Combo

The lamp was easy to light and put out as much light as we needed. However, the base was unstable bordering on dangerous and I would not recommend using this lamp on its base. You should hang it or find another way to stablilize it.

Great lantern

If you're looking for a classic lantern, this is it. Not sure how many years it's been around, but I think it's a lot. The case is really a good idea, and a good deal with the lantern.

Good lamp

We use this type of lantern in scouting camp-outs. We do not use these inside tents because its an actual flame. But it's the brightest thing next to the white alcohol lantern by coleman.

good for scouts

bought two of these for boy scout troop. chose because of hard case. also, didn't bother looking for lantern with an auto-start as those eventually fail over time. good size for weekend campouts.

Simple, easy to use

Simple and easy to assemble. I bought this as a replacement for an older model. The protective carrying case has a much better design and the brightness can be controlled easily.
