The Hooligan 2 from Coleman is a 2 person backpacking tent. It features a full coverage coated polyester fly (450mm) that envelops the tent in a cocoon of protection from the harshest weather. A small front vestibule offers some storage space for extra gear and the all mesh body is great for ventilation and stargazing on nights when the weather is clear. The fly seams are sealed at the factory and the rugged 1000D polyethylene floor is a bathtub style (wraps up the sides) for extreme weather protection and has welded seams, even in the corners, to guard against leaks. Set up is with a single pole and thus could not be more simple and quick. Great for beginner backpackers, scouts and those who want to keep it simple.

Very nice tent!

This is a really nice tent and great for the price. The fly has an oversized vestibule that is awesome for storing packs at night and giving the dog shade during the day. Without the fly the tent is completely mesh which provides excellent ventilation, also is neat watch stars on clear nights.
The tent has proven to be much drier than previous tents with the full fly and the bath-tub style floor. **If you get caught in the rain, make sure to secure the velcroed flap on the outside of the vestibule zipper or you'll get some water in thru the front.
Even with the one-pole design this is a HEAVY and BULKY tent! It does claim to be "great for backpacking" but I wouldn't want to haul it more than a couple miles. I usually hike maybe 3 or 4 miles in to the woods, set up camp and then go on longer day-hikes from there so this works ok for me. It is what it is. For the price you get a very nice tent with features you'd normally only find in a much more expensive model such as the full fly, mesh design, and continuous pole sleeve.
I will say that because this tent is not freestanding you'll want to buy some better stakes than the ones that come with the tent.

Excellence in motion!

I used this tent on 2 seperate trips to the AT in GA. The first time was a 20 mile 2 night stay. It was kind of cold and WINDY. The tent performed well. No wind penetration. No condensation. And for the amount of space inside it was really warm. I think temperatures were in the lower 50's. The second was an overnight. It slept 2 with gear and packs very comfortably. On this trip the temps did not get above 30 degrees. Again this tent was warm and did not collect condensation. Overall this tent is well made. I would TOTALLY recommend it. It is a little on the heavy side. But this weight is not enough to deter me from hiking with it. You won't be disappointed with your purchase. Great job Coleman!!!

Pleasantly Surprised

I bought this tent for my wife and I to sleep in while Motorcycle touring/camping. I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of tent compared to what I paid for it. It is a snap to set up, easy to put back in the carrying bag, and found the fly to be very useful. Plenty of room for two people and day packs. I look forward to backpacking with it also.

Good Quality and BIG

I am a single person with two medium-sized dogs. I drive to as remote a place as I can find and camp there-- this is a great tent for me. Almost too much room. I put it up in no time, and I am not good at this type of thing. Directions were good, and it is just plain easy.

Very roomy!

Bigger than I thought. Easy to set up, but note it is not self-standing (must have the stakes driven in). Great for backpacking or car camping. It says two-man, but my scout son will use it for 3-4 boys, I'm sure! I'll have to get some heavier duty stakes, but that's an easy fix.

Nice Tight Tent

Added this tent to our Boy Scout troop tent collection. Extremely water and wind-proof. A little difficult for one boy to set up, but very easy for two boys. Kind of heavy for backbacking, but not bad if you divide up the tent, fly, and poles among 3 boys. A good buy!

Nice Tent.

This tent is definitely on the heavy side, but it is really big for a two-person tent. There's the trade-off. Numerous (and necessary) guy lines make this tent longer to set up than a two-pole design.

Great three-season tent. The all-mesh inner and high cieling make this an excellent summer tent.

Fast Setup Lets You Enjoy Sooner!

Used during a week long trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Performed admirably. Kept us warm in the evening, and allowed good ventilation during the day. The full-mesh tent body eliminates the possibility of wet gear from condensation. Full fly features a fully enclosed vestibule, great size for your boots.

Great tent!

I use thIs tent for backing and car camping with my Scouts. Very happy with it expecialy after a weekend in the poring rain at Mammoth Cave this summer (my tent was the only one not wet inside). A bit heavy but very comfortable and easy to setup.
Avid Scouter at Campmor on 12/12/2013

great deal!

Went up in minutes - immediately after we put it up - it poured rain and hail - tent stayed perfectly dry inside and subsequently dried up within the hour after the rain stopped - great bargain - really folds right back into the zippered pouch!

Negative Reviews:

Not what I expected

I have had many tents and the design of this tent is very poor. There are no stake holds in the front of the tent so it curls up. The single pole design does not bow the sides of the tent out so the inside sags. The sleeping layout requires the person in the rear to climb over the person in the front to exit because the tent is 8' wide and 6' deep. I would never get this again, much rather have a dome tent.
GRJB at Campmor on 07/07/2013

not what I expected.

Tent is all screening, so must have the rain fly on all the time....because the rain fly is cumbersome to put on...with the velcro straps and 6 staked out tie downs.
Need really long arms to open the rain fly from inside the tent.
Climbing/crawling over somebody to get in can get tiresome as layout of bodies is perpendicular to door.

Good tent

Single pole set-up, all no-see-em mesh walls [no 'solid' walls], solid raised tub. Is likely to experience difficulties in high winds due to single pole design, but set up is a cinch and it has additional lines to anchor. Stake two corners (opposite sides), slide pole through sleve, anchor/steak other corners and ends.
