Great tent in good weather conditions
Our family of 6 used this tent twice this summer for camping and we had it set up in the backyard for a week to test weather conditions. It performed very well. No leaks in the driving rain. I did spend half a day sealing seams and let that dry for 24 hrs before any rain came. I think it is important to get the rainfly perfectly positioned so it does not touch the tent over the roof screens. It is also important to get the tension perfect on the tent and the fly if you want the door to work - and you must be on flat ground. In our case, it all seems to work beautifully if you spend time to make sure tension is optimal on all parts of tent and fly - stakes not too tight, not too loose, all velcro attached to proper pole, etc... This takes a while. I don't like that part. Tent is very spacious for our family of 6. We use one queen mattress and four sleeping pads. Plenty of extra room for gear. We camped in summer, not too hot weather and were very comfortable at night, but I think if it were very hot and humid we might have been hot. Ventilation is not great with the rain fly on. We also camped in colder temps last week of Sept., in the 40s at night. Very comfortable temp in the tent. A little damp due to lack of ventilation. Still, despite the drawbacks with getting properly set-up and ventilation issues, we really liked this tent and found it to be a great bargain. You cannot beat the price for the comfort and convenience living in this tent if you are camping in moderate temps/conditions.
Coleman Montana 8 person - Family Tent
I have done backpacking but this trip was a comfort trip not a minimalistic trip. This tent worked out well - esp. since the weather cooperated.
We took this tent car camping - have only used it for two nights so far. With 2 small children we were looking for comfort and room and this was all we could get at a reasonable price and within the 2-3 week timeframe we had in which to shop.
Overall a good tent - set up in about an hour for the fist time out of the box. Sturdy in the wind and good interior height. Hinged door is a nice idea but only has 3 small velcro tabs to keep it shut - tabs did not line up perfectly so the door was prety much open unless you zipped it. But with small kids going in and out all day a hinged door is a must. We zipped it up only at bedtime.
With 2 queen air mattresses we still had some floor room in between but the 7ft width really is tight. If it had rained the tightness would have been a real problem and would have allowed rain to wick through. I would opt for the Weathermaster 10 with it's 9ft width. We bought that tent on back order and will be using it for our next trip and selling this tent.
Bought Coleman before
My husband & I needed a new tent did a lot of research before buying this tent. Even though I have had several Coleman tents before. I still wanted to make sure this was the one since we were spending a good price for as large as one as we needed. But after previous great purchases with Coleman we went back. We used this tent for a Camping trip in the middle of no wear in the woods. We had 1-night of really good rain and we were totally dry. Yippie!! a lot of room... it was long but narrow. We were very satisfied with this purchase. Really the only down fall is that we had to use the zipper on the door do to the lack of velcro for the door. Very easy set up!
A tent for luxurious living
I bought this tent because I was planning on mule camping on Catalina Island for a week, and my little 2-person Coleman seemed a bit cramped for that long a stay. It was a FABULOUS choice. I was advised by the ride organizers that I'd appreciate having a tent I could stand up in, and they were right. It sleeps 8, they say, but I liked it great for just me and all my equipment. I took some tarps for the floor and spread out in it, using other CampMore purchases happily. It sets up very easily with just 2 people, and with clever squashing it actually DOES fit back into the bag it comes in. I heartily endorse Coleman tents, they really impress me both in design and aesthetics.
Palace on the Beach
As an infrequent, inexperienced camper, I was delighted with my new tent during our community family campout on the beach. Two of us put it up fairly quickly and easily. It was roomy and airy, although I wish it had an airvent that would allow air to blow closer to the sleeper. I also thought a "backdoor" would have been nice because it would have allowed a cross breeze through the center of the tent. I loved the pockets, and especially the "hinged door!" Wow was it nice!
My family and I used this tent for the first time a couple weekends ago! We battled all of the elements(rain, heat, and lots of strong winds). The tent held up wonderfully. I also really loved the entry way of the tent and the hinged door. Ventilation in the tent was great, opened up both windows and got a nice crossbreeze. I wouldn't try to cram 8 people in this tent, at max I would say 4 adults and 2 kids. Would highly recommend this tent!
Great tent at the right price
Used this tent to camp at the beach (Assateague Island). Practice at home first so the set up at the beach went pretty quick. A second hand isn't a bad idea, but not necessary. It blew 20MPH every day and the tent was totally fine. Didn't get rained on at the beach, but when it was set up at home it rained hard two straigth days and not more than a drop or two got in the tent.
Its pretty nice
This tent is a great tent, however i wish i would have gotten the Evenston. Another couple that went bought the evanston and it seemed to be more roomy. Its about the same floor space, but mine just seemed so narrow.
Other than that, it help up to my expectations. This was my first Coleman tent. My previous ones were Ozark Trail...dont ever buy those. I returned them both after they flooded on my camping trips.
Big roomy tent. I'm 6'1 and can stand up in the middle. Haven't used the fly yet. But outdoors underneath the stars in Pollock Pines looking through the netted top was awesome. I've deployed and taken down the tent 4 times so far without issue. The door takes some breaking in to function properly, but it seems like it will work great once broken in. Can store all my gear, cot, and bags without issue.
This was just an amazing tent. I would most definitely buy this tent as a gift, or recommend it to a friend. We camped out for 5 days, with two days being rain, and this tent held up with no problems. We had on queen double thick air mattress, and all of our camper gear inside, with plenty of room to move around. Buy this tent, you really wont regret it.
