Held up to a beating very well
I've really put this tent to the test, and have to say I've been very impressed. Now that being said, for backpacking as I've used it, it's extremly bulky and heavy. I'm not much of a minimalist and don't mind the extra workout of taking it on the trails. But it does take up a lot of room in my pack. So much in fact, that I have to undo my sleeping bag compartment to slide it in, which ultimately means any time I set the tent up, my whole bag must be re packed before I can put the tent back in. Is it a huge pain in the butt? Yes. Is the tent incredibly cheap, and reliable? Also yes. It's been great for me to fit my 6'1" frame with pack and extra gear all inside the tent. It's excellent for you and a lady friend (in my case) to get close, but I admit I've also shared it with a male friend of mine on two occasions. Aside from his flatchulence, it really wasn't bad.
Anyways, quick easy set up, always kept me dry even in pretty good downpour (I've never used footprint with it), and parts have stood the test of time thus far. I'll finally be purchasing something more backpacker friendly, but me putting it off this long has been a testament to the quality of the Coleman Sundome 2 man.
Good tent for the money
My girlfriend and I have used this tent on a couple overnight backpacking trips. It's a decent tent, easy to set up, I just wish it was a little lighter or smaller when packed. Obviously it's an inexpensive tent, so it's not fair to compare it something four times as much. I have yet to test it in very windy conditions or real rain. It's plenty roomy enough for two people. Ventilation is good, condensation has never been a problem. My GF says she does not like the location of the fasteners that hold the door when it's open, I can't say I have noticed. Overall I would say its a good entry level backpacking tent for two people.
Great backpacking tent!
Purchased this tent for my son to use for Boy Scouts. It is lightweight, packs easily, and is quick and easy to set up. Recently took it to Asseteague Island, MD for a Troop campout. It was subjected to constant winds and a full day of heavy rain with no leaks and was virtually unaffected by the wind. Works just as well on the trail too. All the quality of the more expensive "name brand" tents, but at a fraction of the cost. Recommend a 24" stuff sack to put it in instead of trying to re-use the supplied duffle bag.
So far I've only used it for light camping. It was large enough for two grown men (both of us are ~5'9") to sleep comfortably with some extra room.
The pockets came in extremely handy, and I didn't notice them in the product description. They hang at the head/foot ends of the tent, one each.
It held up against an hour long torrential downpour. We had a minimal amount of moisture get in, but I attribute that to condensation.
I erected and disassembled the tent myself without any issues.
worked for what it was intended thus far
purchased so I could camp out in a backyard rather than spend night in hotel. Friend and I survived in this tent with some comforters under us, neg. degree sleeping bags and a comforter on top of us in 19degree weather, so as far as I'm concerned, good for a 3 season tent. However, there was no rain to deal with, so not sure about how it will hold up in that.
A solid tent that does it's job. Very easy to setup and take down. Definitely note that this is a Summer tent, I wouldn't take it somewhere facing high winds or substantial precipitation. For a 2p tent it is relatively compact but it did seem rather bulky and on the heavier side on my backpacking trip but nothing that was a major deal.
Great tent, easy to set up
The first morning that I woke up in this tent I could see fire ants swarming all over it on the outside, but not ONE got in. Not that day. Not ever. Not only is this tent easy for one person (woman, age 60) to set up, it is ant-proof, at least in my experience. I highly recommend it.
Great tent for one
I love this little tent. There is plenty of room for me and my gear to be dry and protected. This would not be true if two people tried to sleep in it. When my husband uses it (he's 6'2") he has to sleep corner to corner.
Everything you need and nothing you don't. I use it for me and my gear it's perfect size and I'm 6'2". For [$], I mean come on it's a great tent. my only complaint: The fly works fine I just wish it had a full one.
Large for its price and size
I bought this to replace my old tent. I use this tent for wildfire fire assignments. It's bigger than the Coleman I replaced and fits in the same space in my "Go Out" bag. Easy set-up and simple design and more spacious.
