Good for particular activities

Ok, so this hat is great for many uses. Backpacking overnight to 3 day trips you are in good hands. However for example I just got back from doing a little mountaineering and well we had super clear hot days on glaciers and I got cooked. The hat is enough protection for low elevation (below 10,000 ft) where you will be walking in and out of trees ect... In high winds it does get blown around a bit but still manages to protect you well enough for standard weekend backpacking trips. I Like the hat so much that I am doing some construction to it where I can add more protective covering to it when mountaineering or desert hiking, but removable when regular backpacking when I don't need obsessive protection from the sun. So it all depends on what you are planning on doing, but if your a casual hiker/standard backpacker then this hat is great. If you want to do 2 week trips at high elevation this is not the hat for you.

Negative Reviews:

Not so great!

I hike a lot in the Cascades, literally every day. We get a lot of wind with our sun and the protective flap that's supposed to protect the sides of the face and neck is so light that it blows up onto the top of the hat or just straight back to the sides. Very disappointed!I'm returning this and hoping that the Outdoor Research sun runner hat will be more effective. Sure looks like it! Check it out!
