Great, lightweight pants.
Great pair of pants. Glad I got them on sale, I don't think they're worth the full price. A few of the seams have stretched a little... so I'm waiting to see how they hold up and if they'll break. Also, for this price, I would expect ankle zips for easy on/off. I don't want to have to take my boots off to convert to shorts. One thing to note however is that they are little tight around the butt. I am very very skinny (6' 130 lbs) and they feel okay... But I think they might feel a little tight on the average person.
Cons aside, these pants are very light, comfortable, and breathe amazingly well. They also dry very quickly (dried within half an hour after a knee deep stream crossing). Plus, they give you SPF protection which I find to be a great added bonus (I'm not a huge fan of sunblock).
All in all, great pants but I do find them a bit overpriced... try to get them on sale if possible.
My new favorite pants!
I own several pairs of Silver Ridge II and love them, so I asked for a pair of Silver Ridge Convertible pants for Christmas. I love these pants.
I'm 6'0" and 155lbs. I got them in 32x32 (which is what I normally wear). Initially they felt a little tight, but over just a few hours of wear, they have stretched out a little and fit perfectly. The length is perfect. Whenever you take the lower legs off, the shorts are a great length and not baggy at all. The pull tab on the zipper for each leg is also labeled with an "L" or and "R" for convenience.
I'm not a huge fan of Columbia gear, but the Silver Ridge line and Windward shirts are something that I will always look for.
I really like these and will probably pick up another pair in the future.
Comfortable stylish pants
This is my second pair of Columbia convertible pants. The first pair were my favorite outdoor adventure pants until the fabric tore in the seat.
I'm happy to say that the fit is perfect for my build. I'm 6' and 165 lb. The pants are more stylish and comfortable than the my REI convertibles, which are tight in the waist with balloonish legs. However, the material of the Columbia pants is thinner which I assume is why they tore so easily. The other advantage of the REI pants is that they have so many pockets for easy and secure access. That being said the Columbia pants have sufficient storage options for my needs.
I exchanged my REI sahara convertible pants for these, and these are a MUCH better fit for me. The waist and length are much more in line with all of the other pants that I own, and they are more form fitting (less baggy) than the REI pants. I have worn them only casually so far, and the material seems of high quality albeit a bit thin. I am a bit worried about some of the seams which look a little bit flimsy, but so far so good. From someone who has only had them for a little over a month, I highly recommend these.
Favorite hiking pants!
I have used these pants backpacking and hiking for 3 years, a total of 10 multi-day trips and 20-30 day hikes.these pants perform well. Wash in the stream and they dry quickly. Very comfortable, many pockets, well made ( stitching around back pocket has started to wear but that's it for problems) comfortable and very light. Zippers on removable legs work well. The belt is a bit useless for anything other than holding the pants up. Also very comfortable for travel, driving or on the plane.
I bought one pair of these pants to use for backpacking, but found them so comfortable I bought another pair. I now wear them around the house. While I have not yet taken them backpacking, I have used the shorts in my kayak and find them to be quick drying. I particularly like the gusseted leg, the light weight, and quick drying features. The leg zippers operate easily (need to remove your boots to get the leg off). All in all, well worth the price.
I bought two pair, so they must be good
These pants serve a dual purpose for me: I work in them every day (I'm a writer), and I wear them to go hiking. I'll also travel in them because they're so comfortable.
I much prefer them to blue jeans, because they're lighter, more breathable, and I can convert them to shorts with no effort. I only wish they came in the odd waist sizes, because a 32-inch waist is too tight, and the 34 is a bit roomy. But I'm not complaining.
Great but needs better pockets.
Over all the pants are great. They are light and durable and the ability to become shorts is great. I will say that I wish the pockets had more velcro or all the cargo pockets had zippers. On the rear pockets there is only a small piece of velcro and I generally wouldn't put anything there but it would be nice to have the (security) of knowing things won't fall out.
I have worn these pants under waders while fishing as well as under off-road motorcycling pants and just as casual pants. In all circumstances they have proven to be a great choice. Until the weather gets consistently colder they may just replace my beloved 501s as my 'go-to' pants.
I like this fit because other brand of similiar pants are too loose in crotch and leg areas. My waist is 35, but the pant size 34 fit the waist and hips just right and not tight nor baggy. Pocket design is good-not baggy and the right amount.
