Columbia Sportswear Bora Bora Booney Ii Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I bought two!

I bought a Columbia Bora Bora Booney II from my local REI store just before going to Africa. Was great! Kept sun off my white neck and ears. Very lightweight. Very packable, in suitcase or daypack. Vented way better than anything I've owned; cannot conceive of better. When our son--a Peace Corps Volunteer--the reason for the trip--complained that his similar sun hat, after 1.5 years of everyhour everyday wear in small-town Africa, was limp and floppy, I told him I would bequeath him mine at the end of our trip. He was SO happy! Now Stateside, I just bought another for me. Love it! And recommend it for all travelers to the sunniest countries, or who walk in American Southwest or Midwest.

With our PCV returning soon, we will see how well the hat held up in the harshest of conditions.

I think it was fine at keeping a light rain off my head. Wide enough, I didn't bother getting out my jacket. The chinstrap does indeed keep it on your head in the wind, such as on a boat.

This is the ONLY one-size-fits-all hat that has EVER fit my head. All baseball caps are way too small for me. On this hat, I have the drawstring all the way out, but it does fit me well!

My Canyon Hat

First trip to the Southwest national parks and warned to protect myself against the sun and heat. This hat fit the job perfectly! It was easy to fold into my backpack when not in use. Did not feel overly hot or sweaty wearing it. The special band that wraps around the inside rim of hat keeps it securely on your head without feeling too tight and the thin chin strap kept it from flying away when the canyon breezes blew too strong. I have fallen in love with our national parks and hope to see more in the near future and you can bet this hat will accompany me wherever I go. Be sure to try them on for the right size.

Nice Hat

Good hat for the money. Cool and breathable in the AZ summer heat. I usually wear an XL hat and the typical X/XL size doesn't work for me. I was happy to find that this hat does. It's comfortable, light weight and not constricting. My only negative is that the brim tends to move a lot in windy conditions. Either flipped up or worse, flipped down over your eyes! Other than that, it's comfortable and washes up easily. Very pleased overall.

A good choice

I bought this for a family trip to Florida. Since I have a rather small head I searched for one with adjustment. It does adjust well but when snugged small enough for me the brim takes on a wavy appearance. Unfortunately it makes a major dip in the front which I find a bit annoying for casual/travel wear. It folds and rolls well for packing and is lightweight so overall a good purchase. The wide brim does provide good shade.

I like this hat!

I have only used this product a couple of times on hikes during hot and sunny days. It has worked well for me, providing shade and protecting my head from the sun. Also, the mesh provides a measure of breath-ability to the hat. I like using this hat on sunny days when I am hiking. It works very well for this recreational hiker.

Comfy for blocking sun

Bought to block sun for yard work and hiking. Fits well, is light, and stays on. Good design. Haven't washed yet, but think it will survive well.

Outstanding Booney!

Lightweight and comfortable. Only four stars due to price, even though it is one of the least costly in this category.

Great Hat

It breathes well, and does a great job keeping the sun off my face, ears, and neck.

Great Hat

This hat lives up to its description. It was effective, cool, and lightweight. Kept clean too.

Negative Reviews:

It does what it says, but nothing more.

I might have given this 3 stars, but I ordered online and the one they sent me was poorly made. The brim and chinstrap appear to be sewn on 10 or 20 degrees off from the crown such that the left side of the chinstrap is near my temple and the right side is over my ear. I would have noticed that had I been picking it off the shelf.

But I don't really like the design even if it had been made correctly. It is intended as a one size fits all with a shock cord to cinch it up to your size, but it's natural size is like a washtub. By the time I cinch it to my admittedly smallish head, it wrinkles up in the back and causes the brim to dip down and hit my shirt collar and backpack. Also, the brim is not nearly as stiff as it looks in the picture. After about 20 minutes on a 95 degree trek, it began to sag. so much that it interfered with my peripheral vision. Also, it started to look like one of those big floppy hats old women wear at the beach (think lady whose kid got eaten in the original Jaws).

Basically, if you have a gargantuan head, and don't mind looking like an old woman, this is the hat for you.

Good for travel

This hat works well for travel. It's lightweight and packs easily and it did what I needed it to do - protect me from the sun. I really wanted another brand (Tilley) because they look so good - but, they also cost twice as much. As luck would have it, my local REI didn't have the Tilley in my size. So, I saved about $35 and this hat worked out just fine.
