Saving my hide

I really enjoyed the protection of my 'HIDE' -(neck), hence saved my hide. I vacation near the woods and always come home with large welts on my neck as I am prime dining for insects and very allergic as well. I vacationed twice this year where this painful biting usually occurs and having worn my cap not one neck wound did I suffer. My canoeing partner had sunburn on his neck, I did not.I found it folds easily and travels well as it is lightweight and of durable fabric. The only issue I had with this hat was my choice of color, the light color does not work well with my skin tone. I have used this cap much more than I had ever anticipated I might when considering my purchase of it. I am very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it .

Nice but limited.

Bought the cap to protect my neck from the burning sun. The material feels cool, soft and lightweight. It wears comfortably. I had to draw up the back string to make it fit. My hat size 7-1/4 so I estimate max size about 7-5/8. The bill of the cap needs to be longer to keep the sunlight out. The cape in the back also needs to be an inch or two longer even though I wear a shirt with a collar. As I say, it works limited for what I had bought it for but could have been made to be more effective. It does not have any strong nor harsh odor from the bug treatment. The form of it is not rigid and round as in the photo. The top of the cap lays more loose and flimsy somewhat like a painter's cap.

Keep The Sun Off The Neck

I live in the desert. I am very fair skinned. This item was also worn while on a cruise. The great thing about this product is that it is breathable. The material that covers the neck is heavy to stay down on the neck. Columbia uses different material to cover the neck. Some are more "flimsy" than others. I guess this has more polyester in it than nylon??? I don't really know my fabrics that well. I have another Columbia model hat that covers the neck as well. It works fine, but I prefer this model.

A good hat for the price.

I purchased this during the winter, so I haven't tried it outside yet. I plan to use it while kayaking. I have a pretty big head, but the hat fits alright. I could use a slightly bigger size, but one size fits all....mostly.

this is a good hat

Good hat, keeps the sun off your neck when looking down. The flap is quiet when your walking, let you hear whats going on around you.

Could use a little venting.

Really Keeps Mosquitos Off

No annoying noise with head movement because of the soft fabric. Really kept the bugs off of my face and neck. So much better than hat with netting!

This thing works

Carried in both my work and sporting gear. I keep one in each set and in my truck

Bug Me Not Cachalot Hat

Great fishing hat. Fits good and blocks the sun. Didn't keep away the knats but they were overwhelming.
shrimpboat at Campmor on 05/05/2013

Does the job...

Product is used for jogging, biking, etc. Anything out under the intense sun. Protects neck and ears.

Great hat and a great price

Great hat and because it folds you'll have it when you needs it.

Neutral Reviews:

Nice hat, poor bill

The bill is split to make packing it easier, but instead of that, it makes the bill just goofy looking. A cap that is as crushable as this one doesn't need a bill that folds in half. It would pack away just fine with a full bill. So the net result is a good hat gone wrong.
Jim at Campmor on 12/12/2013

Good Idea, Bad Execution

The split bill for ease of packing was ill-conceived. It wasn't necessary to split the bill to pack it, as the hat will lay pretty flat all by itself, and the so called fold-able bill doesn't improve the situation. Lastly, when worn, the bill doesn't really line up all that well. No wonder it was discontinued.
