Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge Shirt Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Favorite hiking/travel shirt EVER!

I own 7 of these shirts. Three of them are a few years old when they were part of Columbia's "Titanium" line. As far as I can tell, the new ones are of the same construction as the Titanium ones.

The best part about this shirt is that it actually looks nice on. The fit is trim and the armholes high compared to other Columbia shirts. Honestly, I was reluctant to try this shirt given that I had previously purchased one of their PFG shirts. (I'm pretty sure PFG stands for Professional Fat Guy.) But the Silver Ridge fits nothing like the PFG gear.

If I could change one thing, I would give it a zippered security pocket in addition to or in place of the velcro pockets.

Also, in spite of the man-made nature of the fabric, it will shrink ever so slightly on you if dried in a drier. But it dries on its own so quickly, just line dry it after washing.

Going to buy another.

This shirt is perfect for fall or spring midwestern weather and works well for both warm and cool temperatures. Although long-sleeved, it's very lightweight and breathable. The sleeves roll up nicely and can be held in place with a button tab. I'm slender and 6' tall and sometimes have difficulty finding a shirt with with sleeves long enough that isn't too big/wide in the body, but this one is good for me. I bought two (different colors) and notice that the fabrics are different. One has a flat finish adn is very lightweight (which I prefer) and the other has a very subtly textured finish and is a little heavier material. I wish there was more consistency. They seem well-made and have been durable, dry quickly and are comfortable. I like them a lot.

I'm a big fan of the styling, with nice stitch placement and color. The price is good but correlates with the shirt's durability. After owning for only a few weeks, I'm noticing a little more wear and tear than I would like. Also, the fit is great except for the length. I'm 6'2" and the large hangs lower than I would like. Still, this shirt is pretty darn good and has become my go-to everyday lightweight summer shirt that I can wear to work and out on the trail on hot days. Despite the criticisms, I like this shirt and ordered additional colors after receiving the first one.

Extrememly Versatile Shirt

Love this shirt for hikes where the weather is constantly changing. Lightweight, quick drying if you get caught in a rain shower, and great for sun protection while keeping you cool on warm weather days.

This is my go to "casual travel" shirt as well.

As with most Columbia tops, the sizing runs a bit large. I normally wear a medium in most other brand tops but I picked up a small in this one and it fits great. I'm 6'3'', 170lbs.

Excellent shirt with useful features

Bought to take on trip to Italy this spring. Weather predicted to be cool and possibly rainy. Shirt was easy to pack, few wrinkles after a day and a half in the suitcase, they disappeared after an hour of wearing. Light to wear and very comfortable. Roll up sleeves a definite plus as weather was quite warm by mid-day. Washed in hotel room sink and dried overnight where other items did not dry completely. No wrinkles afterwards.

Best shirt I have ever owned!!!

I live, work and hike in the humid Midwest and I couldn't have asked for a better hiking and outdoor work shirt. Some days I am working all day in the sun and heat and this shirt breathes and dries quickly so it keeps the sun off me and keeps me cool and dry. I just ordered a second one. Would I recommend this shirt to a fried... YES YES YES... A THOUSAND TIMES YES!

Durable and good quality

This is my "go to" favorite shirt to wear hiking and backpacking. It holds up well and as good quality. I only have one shirt but have worn it on almost all of my backing trips. It's held up remarkably going through some nasty bushwacking off trail through lots of growth subjecting it to abrasion. No rips or tears and the stitching has held up well. I'd like to get another one.

Comfortable, great for traveling

I used this shirt while traveling in Europe. I loved everything about it. It didn't wrinkle much at all. It was comfortable, and cool on the hot days. I layered for cooler days, and it was great then, too. Rolling up the sleeves worked for the really hot days. This shirt is perfect for traveling, and I can see it would be great for hiking, too.

100 miles and still awesome

Wore this shirt almost every day (9/10 days) as I hiked the 100-Mile-Wildnerness section of the AT and have started wearing it working as line cook in a professional kitchen and at catering events. Its held up and been great.

Shirt is awesome, loved the detail of the straps for securing rolled up sleeves and the armpit venting.
BP0221 at REI on 08/08/2013

These shirts are a godsend in hot, humid weather. They breathe really well with the help of strategically placed vents and light, moisture wicking nylon.
They do fit a little bigger than some shirts. I am 5'7, 135lbs and the small fits perfect with a casual look.
Makes an awesome gift for any lover of the outdoors

Negative Reviews:

fabric wear a problem

I would love to give this shirt a 5-star review, as the shirt is comfortable, fits well, and has nice design details. Unfortunately the fabric has snagged and pilled so badly, especially on the lower front, that it's become unattractive. I've had the shirt less than a year. I've had similar shirts from other manufacturers whose fabric has held up for years without showing wear like this.

Too "plastic" for me

The cut is fine but the material is too "plastic" for my taste, too obviously synthetic as soon as I saw it in person. I'm returning mine.

performance apparel

Vents need to be strategically placed. It gets very warm if it is humid.
