Very Nice Casual/Work Shirt
I bought several of these shirts and wear them at work year round. My time is split between an office and a laboratory. Personally, I think these shirts are great for work and casual attire.
If you are rough on clothes, you will find that this fabric will fray and pill, but so will most fabrics. Consequently, I do not wear these shirts bushwhacking or hiking because I am pretty rough on clothes in general and this fabric will snag on stuff if you don't pay attention. It is pretty much like anything... if you are conscientious and take care of things, it will last you.
I really like the feel of the fabric, but I am not much of a cotton person and can't stand wool.
You have to try these on for size. I typically wear a Large in most shirts, but I wear a Medium in these. So, the sizing runs a little on the large side, because my name is not Benjamin Button and I am pretty sure I am not getting any smaller.
The sleeves are long enough to cover your wrists with both arms stretched out forward. I love this about these shirts, because it is rather annoying to me when I stretch my arms out and the cuffs on shirt slide half-way to my elbow. This does not happen with these shirts. So, I find the length to be really good and the sizes perhaps on the Large side.
I really like these shirts and have no strong complaints, rather a cautionary note that if you are rough on clothes or careless, you will snag this fabric. It is not chainmail, and I am willing to bet it wasn't intended to be used as such.
Finally, a shirt which actually fits.
Even though I said the sleeves are a bit long at this point I will take what I can find.
Lately it seems every shirt I buy, once its tucked in, I can barely lift my arms past my shoulders. A extra inch of material at this point will easily be overlooked by me.
I've also gotten into Nylon shirts since they are so light. This blend is a little heavier than what I've bought in the past but with long sleeves I will wear it as a winter shirt.
The only thing about this shirt which I don't like..velcro pockets.
Great all around shirt
Love this shirt. Picked one up for a trip to the tropics. Very comfortable, lightweight and dries easily. Wear it fishing, hiking, traveling and to work. Only small hickup for me was the sleeves are a bit long even with a medium, though i usually wear it with the sleeves rolled up.
I wish REI carried more styles! They only had the one, so I had to go elsewhere to pick up more styles. Columbia carries a whole bunch.
Father-in-Law Loves It.
After my wife sent it to him via priority mail, my father-in-law called to say how much it liked the shirt. He said it was "great, beautiful,...really liked it. He never does that. This shirt has to be really good for him to call. At the risk of getting my wife in trouble, I picked it out. It is a great looking shirt and has a nice feel to the material. I may go back an get one for me.
Keeps the bugs out
I was in the Eastern Sierra's for a week last summer (near Thousand Islands Lake). Mosquitoes were horrible. This shirt kept them from biting through even without wearing a tee shirt underneath. UV protection was good too. Felt light and airy. Kept me cool during the hottest parts of the day. Did a moderate amount of off trail hiking with no rips. Very pleased with the shirt.
Good for the desert.
I do quite a bit of work in the desert and this shirt works well for the environment...I just wish REI carried the tall sizes.
I purchased this shirt for a trip to Europe. It was perfect for sighting seeing, which involved walking several miles each day.
Columbia® Silver Ridge⢠Plaid Short-Sleeve Shirt
Everything is made qualitatively, but pure synthetics as will be rushes in the summer, I don't know.
Wore this on a Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike. Drys quickly, protects against the sun, and looks good!
Will purchase shirt for family members
Very functional for outdoors - sun protection and light weight/breathable, loose fit to accommodate fly fishing
