Columbia Sportswear Silver Ridge L/S Shirt Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I absolutely love this shirt. I'm petite (5'4", 115 lbs), small-shouldered and small-waisted, and most button-downs make me look like a child. But this shirt is both flattering and professional looking, while delivering more than enough cooling power (I've worn it several times out in hot, humid, and sunny weather). An XS fits me perfectly, and I really like the tapered waist and range of colors. I like it so much, I bought a black one on sale; sometimes it wicks so well that I feel almost too cooled by my sweat, so I don't think the black will be a problem in the heat. I would definitely recommend the fossil and iceberg, though.

The Medium size arrived, but being a little broad shouldered, I sometimes find that Mediums are snug. This one was, and also a little tighter in the arms than I wanted for kayaking and sailing. I then ordered the large, which is perfect through the top, but a little broad in the waist and hip area. Still, its fine for active outing and still doesn't look sloppy. The fabric, femine tailoring and shape, the quality of the stiching, and the attention to detail is one of the very best I've ever seen in this price range! I'm picky and this shirst hits a home run!

Order two sizes bigger

Quality seems really good, and the performance would probably be great. Unfortunately, it didn't fit me right so I haven't worn it. According to the sizing chart, a size Small should fit. However, I ordered a Medium because a Small wasn't available. Turned out, the Medium was too tight in my shoulders and restricted my movement (I tried it on over a tank top). I'm 5'5", 116 lbs, have a 32" bust, and have broad shoulders. Perhaps if my shoulders weren't as broad, it would fit better. As it is, I'd probably have to go with a Large.

I bought this shirt 1 day before my field trip to Kenya. I was a little concerned about it might get dirty easily. I am very glad I bought this shirt. It was my great purchase for Africa. I could take a shower once a week but this shirt stayed nice and only got dust on it. Once I finally washed it it became like brand new. The side pocket comes very handy. The back of the collar is double and prevents you from sun burn on the neck.

I bought this shirt in black and it can be dressed up or down. The fit is great and does not feel restrictive since the fabric has a slight stretch. The front breast pocket isn't good for much except something really thin like a tissue or credit card since it would be bulky. The fabric has a slight plaid-like texture and is very high quality. This shirt is extremely comfortable and one of my favorites.

Great blend of form and function.

I've used this shirt on several backpacking trips, and it finishes the trail looking great. Cleans up very well, even after a week's worth of sweat and ground in dirt. A stylish design and flattering fit, it dresses up nicely and looks good off-trail. I use this shirt regularly for hiking and casual wear around town.

Fits perfectly. I bought this mainly for fishing so I don't have to worry about putting sunscreen on over and over on a sunny day. I bought a medium to to be sure I could move around in it. Sleeve length was good. Love the color-- doesn't look manly at all!

Nice fit, great style. I wish this came in cotton. As it's polyester I'll have to wear a cotton undershirt. I ordered M, my usual size, but with a T-shirt and a 36C bra size, this shirt feels too tight. Exchanging this for a large.

This shirt has a great fit, the cut and fit allow freedom of motion without the pulling associated with a lot of other button up the front shirts that I have worn in the past.

Negative Reviews:

After returning the Medium which was extremely tight, I received the Large and to my great disappointiment, it was way too large. There must not be any quality control in the manufacturing of this item with such a discrepancy in sizing between 2 sizes.
I liked the way the cuff was cut on an angle to cover the back of the hand-very clever functionality.
Although, the tab that is supposed to button on the arm when the sleeve is rolled up was next to impossible to attach. the button is hidden under a tiny upside down pocket on the upper sleeve and getting one's fingers underneath to button the tab is impossible. Very poor functional design element.
I couldn't keep the shirt anyway due to the sizing issue. I am 5'7" 124 lbs, small bust.

Columbia shirts

I used these shirts for summer horse riding. I wanted sun protection & thought that the material would wick away the sweat, but the shirts just stayed wet next to my skin
Sandy the rider at Campmor on 07/07/2013

Cut too small

I have had other Columbia shirts like this and they were always true to the sizing. This particular shirt is so off the mark, it may actually be mismarked.
Jay Gee at Campmor on 06/06/2012

To Hot

Stylish. Thought it would be sun protective, but it doesn't dry. It stayed wet and clung. Unconfortable

Neutral Reviews:

I was debating between getting the Small or Medium based on the sizing specs since my measurements were a bit of both. I chose the Medium anticipating that the larger size would allow more body movement when fly fishing. I was surprised upon receiving and trying on the Medium how fitted and tight the design of the shirt is. I am exchanging the Medium for a Large.
I do like shirts with some fitted form, and not too baggy, but the Medium was too tight to even layer a t-shirt comfortably underneath. It was also too body clinging for hot weather when some air circulation would be helpful.
Otherwise, the shirt seems just fine and I look forward to trying on the Large. I wanted a light tan color and a functional shirt for fishing and safari in Africa.
I am 5'7" 125 lb.s with a narrow torso and small bust. I usually wear a size 6 or 8 in tops unless the cut is unusually small.

Bon4986792 at Backcountry.com on 06/20/2012

Didn't fit right

I ordered one size larger (M) with the idea I'd be layering it over other shirts. Unfortunately, the fit in the shoulders was too restrictive. I have somewhat broad shoulders for a woman, but I'm only 5'4", 115lbs, and have a 34A bust. Maybe it would fit someone with a smaller frame and smaller shoulders. My mom, who fits that description, did try it on, but she has wide hips so it didn't work for her, either.

As far as quality goes, it seemed to be made well and would have suited my needs had it fit right.
heatherK74 at Campmor on 07/07/2012

Good headline

I wear a size 8 and this is small, but it will fit rather tightly.
