Good stuff!

I love these shorts. They have held up great. I bought them before going to Big Bend National Park with my college's outdoor program. I wore them there, at the beach a few weeks ago, mowing, and even on dates with my wife. They are very comfortable, I just wish they were a tad longer. Overall they are a great buy, and I love them.

I'm a Columbia Water Shorts fan

I am an outdoor programs instructor/guide. We spend a lot of time on the water from April until October and these shorts along with several other Columbia water shorts work best for me. They are well made and take the wear.

Best river shorts/swim trunks ever!

Quite simply, a similar pair I have owned since about 1999 and worn extensively began to fade. The old pair is still functional and even the elastic has not failed. Great shorts!!

great daily wear for raft guide

I work in on a river so I'm always wet. These shorts keep me warm and they dry quickly. Comfortable, and I like the zip pocket.

Better than ever

I've been wearing these shorts for a number of years and like the availability of 8" inseam and the fact they are now SPF rated.

Great pair of shorts

My husband needed a new pair of shorts to wear flyfishing. These are perfect for that. They dry out quickly and are very breathable.

I like 'em

I wear these shorts for anything outdoors/sports. The belt on this newest Whidbey design works better, holds better, than the previous design.

Good Value

I use these for everything. They are lightweight and have good pockets. They look nice enough for casual wear.

Fit well and good for big leg people, my thighs are 30 inches and they fit well.

Very worthwhile

These shorts are a big part of my year-around wardrobe in warm and sunny Florida.

Negative Reviews:

Overpriced swim trunks, not shorts

Columbia has departed from the quality river shorts of the past with very poor quality. The so called belt is a piece of nylon sewn to a piece of elastic. Non functional junk. Way over priced for no belt makes the shorts non functional as a short. May as well buy swin trunks same thing. What are all the pockets for? you can't put anything in them with out the shorts falling down. The pld shorts with real belt also serves as an emergency strao if needed.
Barney at Campmor on 06/06/2012

Great, if you want to moon people

The nylon strap that is meant to be used as a drawstring to keep the trunks on is useless. It connects to loose elastic that won't keep your shorts on in a windstorm, much less the ocean...other than that, they're great.

needs improvement

need a sturdy belt to hold shorts up under kayak spray skirt, this does not do it. OK for casual use
kayak don at Campmor on 06/06/2011

so so

The belt is sewn onto elastic and will not stay snug and the inner liner rides up.

Bigger than it used to be

I have worn Columbia Whidbey (used to be Whidbey Island) shorts as casual, knock-around shorts for at least eight or ten years, and I've been very pleased with them. Imagine my surpise when I ordered the same size I've always ordered (medium), only to discover that the waist on these new shorts has to be cinched down with the belt to fit my 33" waist! These "medium" shorts have grown about two to three inches in the waist! They're still good shorts, just don't fit like they used to.

So far so good, If the buckle would stay

Shoulda saved my pro's and con's for here. The belt buckle works very well. Except when being washed have to dig down under washer agitator to recover half the belt buckle. The good side. When it is on cinches very well. Overall, great shorts. Until I loose the flipping belt buckle.

i would buy the shorts again

Nice shorts. But the elastic belt broke unexpectedly after a short time.
