Nice for Now

First you must not use this this tire as a front one .. The sizing is wrong it is not a 2.2
if you need a larger tire order the 2.4 it will be more up to 2.2. This tire was a bit hard to mount tubeless compared the Specialized Renegade control i had previously..This is mounted on a WTB frequency i19 29er. Has a rear tire traction is really good I have no slips in steep climbs and puncture protection for now is really good..
like others have mention though it seems like the tire as really a soft compound. I have not ride it that much and it melts really fast.. Please be patient for tubeless setup the tire took a couple of rides to place itself with the sealant..

x-king lives up to hype so far

Using as a front tire for mostly fire roads & single track -- hard pack dirt, sand & rocky terrain. Has performed well so far and was easy to install with Stan's no tube sealant.

Negative Reviews:

Black Chili compound is not durable

I purchased the 29x2.2 X-king Protection for use as a front tire and was initially happy with the traction and low rolling resistance. However, after only about 100 miles I started to notice that the knobs were tearing and large chunks are coming off. The trails I ride in San Diego aren't particularly hard on tires, so I was shocked to see such damage so quickly. As the knobs became damaged traction has decreased. I now have about 250 miles on the tires and they look worse and worse after every ride. I will be taking this tire back in hopes that REI will take care of me. I wonder if this problem is specific to the Black Chili compound conti uses or if all of the X-kings have this problem?
To give you an idea of how slowly I wore out my last front tire, I had a Specialized Ground Control 29x2.1 S-works (which is their light weight version) and it lasted me about a year of consistent riding with plenty of tread left when I cut the sidewall on a shard of glass. This included 3 months of riding in the front range in Denver, CO area which is incredibly rocky.
Background: I ran the X-king at 24-25 psi tubeless with stan's sealant on stan's rims. I am 150lbs 5'10" and race competitively.
