Crank Brothers Candy 2 Pedals Reviews:

Perfect for me

These pedals are perfect for my needs. Clip in for a ride on the trails, or if I'm just riding around the corner to the pizza place to grab a beer, I can wear my regular shoes (chacos) and manage just fine. I've used the regular egg-beaters also and I like those, but its nice having the option of the platform for casual/short rides.

Regarding entry/exit, I've never struggled to clip-in and and they always release when I need them to. Anyone who considers themselves more than a very casual rider should try a pair of clipless pedals. The increase in power for acceleration and climbs and the stability over bumps and roots on the trails make this a relatively cheap investment, compared to some cycling products. Can't comment on long-term durability, but after a few months and a few hundred miles, they still spin smoothly. The outside of the platforms have scratched some from crashes, but that's fine with me. My road bike is my baby but my mtn bike is proud to show off years of abuse.
Added bonus: A crankbrothers sticker was inclosed in the box, which wasn't the case when I bought my egg-beaters a few years back.

Good for beginners

I am VERY new to mountain biking and wanted to add a little something to my bike without spending a lot of money on a new one. These were recommended to me by the people at the local bike shop. I had a little trouble installing them, but I brought my bike in for a tune up and they had no problems getting them on. I was put on the trainer at first, since I had never had clipless pedals. Had a hard time getting them clipped in, but had no problems getting out. I've had them for about two weeks, and have been out for 10+ mile rides about four times. It didn't take long to figure out how to clip in. It's easier when actually riding, than on the trainer. I haven't taken them out on a mountain bike trail yet, I'm a little scared. The gravel trail I've been practicing on hasn't been a problem. Hoping to get on the cross country ski trails this weekend for the next step closer to single track. If only it would stop raining.

Great pedals for all bikes

I have crank brothers on all 5 of my bikes (2 MTB and 3 road). The candy 2 are on 4 of the bikes. The egg beaters are on my carbon race bike.

The Candy 2's makes for a great all around pedal. They are easy to get in and out of, have an fairly large surface area if you are a little too preoccupied to get clipped in immediately, and the are very durable on my MTB. The only downside to the candy 2's (and candy 3/4's) is they are extremely slippery if you are not clipped in. I bought a spare pair of the Candy 1's to see if the polycarbonate is better. These never collect dirt like my old SPD's did.

If you plan on always being in a cycling shoe these are the way to go. If you want to be able to ride in sneakers occasionally I would suggest something with more of a platform (like the crank brothers mallet).

Versatile Product

I previously used Shimano SPD pedals and was looking for a pedal with a platform that I could use on my Volae Expedition recumbent. I like to have one foot unclipped for safety reasons when riding in a group, so I was looking for a platform pedal. The Candy 2 proved to be better than I ever thought. It is very easy to get in and out of and is very easy on the knees. I had another pleasant surprise in not having a hot spot on the bottom of my foot after a long climb.

Awesome first time clipless pedals.

Awesome. my first clipless pedals. i was worried of falling first few time. but after few practices in the out, i did a 22miles clipped in and out multiple times. increased pedal efficiency. amazing how easy to clip in and out. Had these on my road bike and just purchase another for the mtb. thanks crankbrothers, awesome item. stoked first timer to clipless.

Great For The Price

Great pedals worth the extra $ over the Candy 1 pedals for the stronger design and the ability to perform maintenance on the seals and bearings in the pedal.
