Don't canoe without it!

I felt that I was getting a bit "soft" by getting this canoe chair, and maybe I am, but either way I am totally sold on it! I've been canoe tripping for a long time, and I've never been more comfortable and less sore than after my recent BWCA trip using this canoe chair. It allowed me to paddle longer without getting as fatigued, especially in the bum/lower back region. It easily buckles in and out of the canoe so you can use it around the campsite, too. What a luxury! I also like how you can cinch the backrest all the way down so it doesn't catch branches and stuff on portages. Well done Crazy Creek!

A Must-Have for BWCA Trips

This was one of the greatest things I brought along on my BWCA trip this year. It really saved my back! And it was an awesome chair for sitting around under the tarp during a rainy day, or for sitting around the campfire. Sooooo comfortable! The adjustable straps are awesome for making a comfortable cradle for your back in the canoe.

Atikokan adventure

This canoe chair replaced a 20 year old one. My son and I paddled 50 miles through the Canadian wilderness over 6 days and this chair offered great back support in the canoe as well as handy camp chair.

Added Comfort

Used for our Canoe trips several times per year and this seat provides more comfort after several hours in the Canoe. I prefer this seat over the previous design.
A necessity for canoe tripping.

Definitely worth the money!!!

The crazy creek chair is awesome. Not only is it very comfortable while you are canoeing, it is also very functional when you get to your campsite after canoeing all day.

Great back rest for canoeing a week

The chair was comfortable in the canoe, and provided a campsite back rest too.

Very nice product for a reasonable price

Use on existing seats in canoe for back support

Negative Reviews:

Some uncomfortable surprises

My wife and I were very disappointed with these seats, in spite of generally good reviews by others. The first surprise was that when you lean back in these seats, the flexible back is stretched tightly, hugging your sides. My torso is wider than my wife's, so the amount of "hugging" by the seat back was very uncomfortable, making it hard to breathe.

The second, more important, surprise was that the vertical stays in the back cushion of these seats (there is one stay on each side of the back cushion) will suddenly fall off the back edge of our canoe's bench-style seats. This happens no matter how tight you make the two seat attachment belts. All of a sudden, the stays will slip off the back of the bench-style canoe seat, jarring your back. My wife and I both found this to be very unpleasant, and so returned the seats.

We relied on Campmor's Q&A that said these seats worked satisfactorily for bench-style canoe seats, which wasn't our experience, and so I hope Campmor will refund the return shipping, but don't know yet.

Instead, we bought Sitbacker seats (from Campmor), which so far are completely satisfactory, though I wish their backs were made slightly less wide for the person paddling at the stern; the 16" seat back rubs agains the gunwales that narrow behind the stern paddler. The Sitbacker seats, however, are very comfortable: good back support, and no "hugging" and no sudden slipping off the bench-style canoe seat.

Bottom stay end protectors came off. One protector was cracked. Written instructions were inaccurate and confusing. Storage pocket is poorly designed and does not have secure closure. Items can easily fall out. Customer service was not knowledgeable about the product nor initially helpful. Did not return my first phone call and I only got replacement parts after second phone call.

Acceptable Product despite QC Issues

This is a good product, despite some quality control issues. The Crazy Creek Canoe Chair III arrived out of the box with some manufacturing flaws. The end tabs on the two seat bottom stays had come off; one was also split. Moreover, the enclosed instructions were inaccurate and confusing. When I contacted Crazy Creek, they were less than enthusiastically helpful. It took two calls to get replacement seat stay end tabs. To correct the problem with the loose seat stay tabs, I glued them on so they would not come off again. This should have been done at the factory. After I repaired the seat, I took it to the Adirondacks for a multi-day canoe trip. There is served me well. Overall, this is a good product but could be an excellent product with better attention to detail at the factory.

Good seat cushion. minor back support

I expected this to have more support for my back, but not sturdy enough for me to lean back against while I sat in canoe. It help alittle bit, and the seat cushion was useful. I didn't use it as a camp chair as it had no back support. Used it 6 day trek in Boundary Waters Minnesota

Needs more stiffening

I used this as a canoe and camp seat. The back is not stiff enough to support your back independently, but set up against a rock or log, its quite comfortable.

Crazy Creek canoe chair III

used for canoe trip that included some rapids. Seat forced you to sit too far forward altering balance.
