The Perfect Tent
Great tent. I love to camp, but love to take along the comforting things: cast iron cookware, firewood, chairs, etc. Only things that a vehicle can carry: I'm not exactly the backpacking type. I've outfitted my truck bed w/ a 12v deep cycle battery to provide all of the comforts of a small camper: lighting, fan, 12v plug for an electric blanket, inverter, etc. This tent is amazing. The mosquito netting and the extra space gained with the tailgate down is perfect. Plenty of room to relax comfortably without lying on the ground, and the dog stays out of our way. It sure is nice to have the 4x4 truck to take us to remote locations, but even better to have a level sleeping surface off of the ground when we get there. And waterproof to boot! Only complaint is that after the 5th use, the seam underneath the netting has ripped open. Should be an easy fix, and well worth the versatility. Packs up to the size of a compressed sleeping bag. Great buy!
Great Idea, Great execution.
I purchased this because I got tired of sleeping on the ground. It took about 10 minutes to set up. I purchased this as a slightly soiled return so there were no directions.(I could not find any blemishes or stains) Trust me you don't need directions. The only thing I would suggest is something to hold up the rear window if your gas shocks are old. I had a small board I propped in the corner and it worked perfectly. I know another viewer mentioned you could not secure the tailgate from bugs. There is a bungee cord supplied that runs under the tailgate which pulls the tent snug to the sides. I threw down a picnic table cover over the tail gate and let it run into the truck bed and it was completely sealed. I live in Florida and did not get one bug in there the whole night.
Functional but room for improvement
This thing works as advertised. It is true, as other reviews have mentioned, there are insect gaps around the tent where it meets the tailgate. However, this is easily remedied by stuffing the tent's bag in the hole on one side and a t-shirt or something else in the other. Still, the manufacturers could address this issue. The more pressing issue from my point of view is the length of the rise from the tailgate to the top of the tent -- it needs to be longer so that the entryway to get into the camper shell is larger. This would provide better ventilation and just easier access.
The tent definitely gets the job done -- but it's not perfect (what is?). Would buy again, because there doesn't seem to be any other options.
Got me covered!
This tent fit full size GMC Sierra with Snugtop canopy just as if it had been OEM from GMC! Easy to set up taking us about 2 minutes after a couple times. Stows away quickly each time into provided stuff sack. Zippers are heavy duty quality and bug mesh seems effective although we have used this recently in Fall with bugs stopped by cold nites already. When zipped this tent keeps the sleeping area about 10 degrees warmer and does not feel cramped. We had no rainfall on our recent trip of 2 weeks so anxious to see how this performs in Washington State Rain. Would definitely recommend this to others who sleep in the bed of a truck under canopy.
Fantastic product. Fits my F-150 w/ standard camper shell perfectly. Small packing size, about the size of one sleeping bag (compressed). Setup takes about 3 minutes--no poles/footprint/stakes to set up! So nice to not have to sleep on the ground, as a level surface is always available. Can take it as far as you like: turned my truck bed into a small camper: 12v deep cycle battery, fan, lighting, 12v plug in, inverter, etc. Air mattress, small cots, or memory foam pad: your choice. Great way to camp for those of us who are out of our 20's. :)
This tent worked as described. I concur with other review where there is an opening on each side by the tailgate. However, the problem is easily remedied with a small towel or something. I was setup within a few minutes after arriving at the campground where my buddy took a half hour or more assembling his tent. Its a great add on to my F150 camping cap. I got plenty of ventilation in the GA heat. Haven't had a rain experience yet to comment on.
Have used this product for over seven years mostly summer vacation travel of one month to six weeks. Like it because it extends the length of the space and ventilation. Easy set up and with two Thermarest mattersses across the tailgate gap feet at the door, it essentially seals design problem. Creates a quick easy set up that has withstood major storms, two large dogs and several years. It is still kicking.
Good quality and very useful.
The Truck Tent is very easy to set up and makes camping in the back of the truck much easier. Instead of having to lower the tailgate and raise the door to get out, you have a regular tent door. The extra space created by the tent is very nice, too. There was plenty of room for two people and two BIG dogs with the tent set up.
Your trucks a tent!
The tent does as advertised. Set it up in about 10 minutes or less. The only thing you have to do is put something in the tailgate area (where it opens/crease and on the sides to prevent bugs from getting in. I used an old foam bed cut in pieces and jammed it in. I cut them to size and will be able to re-use them
Years ago I had one of these for my little truck and loved it. Just got back from an endurance ride and my full size truck tent was Perfect. Easy to put up and did the job. I just love it and expect many years of use from it.
