Doing the job for us

We're two seasonal park rangers who live out of our truck and travel between seasons of work. When we car camp, comfort and ease of use is important. We bought the truck tent to lengthen the bed for sleeping because, while I fit into the truck no problem, my boyfriend needs a touch more foot room than allowed with the tailgate and window closed. The tent gave us exactly that.

It sets up easy, stayed on in a strong wind, and gives us the ability to close ourselves in and still make use of the tailgate space - important during our winter travels.

The only con I can see, is that due to the nature of it being a universal fitting tent, it doesn't exactly seal up tight - which might allow bugs and other critters in - but that's minor in our books anyhow. Do wish it was a bit taller, as our upper window could extend higher than the tent allows, and the extra headroom would be nice, but width-wise it fits perfectly on the back of the truck, even with our roof rack. Worthy purchase for a truck camper.

Turns a camper shell into a mini-RV.

This is my 2nd DAC truck tent. I had one for my Ford F150 and now I bought this mid-sized one for my new Ford Ranger. It makes camping in a camper shell much more comfortable. I am 6'3" tall so a standard short bed is a bit cramped to sleep in. This tent extends the length of the truck bed because it is set-up with the tailgate down. The screen allows for ventilation without the bugs. When it gets cold simply zip up the canvas fly. I used my old one heavily for 10 years without an issue. For around a $100 this is a true bargain. Also, I can't tell you how many times people have admired it in campgrounds and KOA's. I breeze in and out of places with ease. Sometimes the RV crowd are a bit envious.

Great bargain, easy to use

We use the truck tent with our 94 Toyota landcruiser. It sets up in 5-10 mins, and allows us to utilize the extra square footage with the tailgate down. Would highly recommend for anyone that enjoys sleeping in the back of the truck when camping. Nice breeze, privacy door, and doesn't take up a lot of room.

Only downside is a broken zipper. After so much use, though, that will happen with any tent. About to buy a replacement!

Worth every penny!

I can see how this product is only for a small percentage of people. Not many people turn their truck into a living space, but, if you have a truck, with a cap, and you plan on sleeping in the back... this is a must! sets up in seconds, and dramatically helps with entering/exiting, keeping good airflow, and most importantly, almost eliminates any and all claustrophobic feelings you may have with sleeping in a truck bed!

Great Alt Expands Use & Comfort of Truc

A pleasure to set up in 5 min - expands ventilation - keeps out bugs. Don't like the flimsy stick poles that are supposed to hold the back window of the cap up - use instead a section of Alm pipe or a dowel and a shock cord,I also use additional padding - just pc of carpet at the corners of the gate and windows -- but I love it !

Excellent alternative

Great alternative to setting up a regular tent when we're only stopping for one night on the road. Set up very quickly. Gave us a bit more room than in just the pick-up bed, and bug-free air circulation was a plus in south Georgia in June (which is not the most comfortable place to camp due to bugs and humidity :-)

Helps turn a truck bed into a camper

We only used the mid-sized camper once. We had to exchange the mid-sized for a full-sized camper. The set up was easy and it really made the truck feel bigger. The zippered fly makes entry and exit of the truck easier as well.

Needs more measurements!!

just giving the width of the tailgate measurement is insufficient. I would exchange this for an Explorer 2 tent except it costs too much for shipping and customs. I will never buy anything online again without complete detailed measurements!

Well-made, good value for the money

The camper tent is easy to set up, light-weight, and appears well-made. It offers good ventilation, privacy, and extends the useful space of the truck bed.

Negative Reviews:

Not sized for Leer 180

This will not fit my Tacoma with Leer 180. It is not tall enough to accommodate the lift on the 180 and as a result, the lift actually tilts down which results in a "head bonk" when entering and exiting. also, the bug screen mesh is too big and gnats, black flies and mosquitoes can easily penetrate it. Lastly, the zippers seem very flimsy and am not confident they would last very long. I love this concept, but unfortunately will have to return because i can't accept the cons.

not bad, could be better

would have been great if it came with a pole system to hold up the top. my 4runner does not have a fold up window to support the top. but i made due with a flexible tent pole.
