Dagger Katana 9.7 Crossover Kayak-Storm Review:

Being a whitewater kayaker, I've never considered paddling a boat with a skeg and hatch. I always thought, “Oh, that's not meant for whitewater.” Well, on the contrary; it's capabilities are only broadened with whitewater and flat water features and facets. The Katana is fast. On the flat water sections I was constantly passing my fellow friends or having to eddy out above a rapid to give some space between all the rafts, kayaks and duckies. The Katana tracks excellently. Despite multiple dry bags stowed in the hatch, it held its line well through the flat water and maneuvered gracefully along the class III+ rapids. It was predictable in the pushy water and carved up the face of crashing waves keeping my deck dry most of the time. It transitions like a dream. Tucked bow and stern chines provide a clean transition of the side rail into the bow and stern ends making catching eddies feel intuitive. Carving, ferrying and surfing along the river was smooth. It's quite comfy. A comfortable, ergonomic design, the leg lifter added a level of comfort and supplied more storage space in the cockpit. I appreciated the multiple security attachment points where I clipped water bottles and dry bags. Six days on the river was easy in this luxurious seating system.
